As of several years ago the original TOS studio model of the Romulan Bird of Prey was lost. Has it resurfaced? Does anyone have any off-screen pictures of it? Dimensions?

The only model-pic I know of for the ship appears in the Star Trek: Original Series Sektchbook. I don't have a copy available to me to scan, but I know it was in the section dedicated to Wah Chang, the ship's designer.

It wasn't 'lost' per se - somebody bought it - and presumably has it either as pride of place in their living room - or taking up space in a junk pile in some basement.
OR it was thrown out a longtime ago and has either gone up in smoke or is buried in a landfill somewhere.

The old TREK fanzine reported the rom BOP model was lost (or thrown out) very early, DURING the series run. That was in a MINIATURES OF STAR TREK article, I think it is reprinted in the book BEST OF TREK #1.
If you're really hard up for pics, there are one or two pictures of the model on stage in that terrible Jim Van Hise book EFFECTS OF TREK, an unauthorized volume that, unlike the Altman & Gross stuff, really doesn't offer any info, since it is mostly copied from articles by other writers. You can probably get it cheap on ebay now; I got mine for 49cents from a used bookstore, but gave it to the Cinefex magazine publisher so he could see how much stuff this guy plagiarized from the mag. He sent a major cease and desist letter, but Van Hise just kept going as far as I know.

Wasn't that the reason why they ended up using the Klingon cruiser as the "Romulan" ship, anyway? Seems to me that the original BOP model was a bit better detailed because of the painting on the lower hull...
I know that they DID show the Romulan ships in "The Deadly Years" when the Enterprise crossed the Neutral Zone for some random reason or another... but I think that they just used recycled footage from "Balance of Terror," so it's not likely that they used that model again.
