Here's one more, then, of the same ship. It could be something else, but it looks like an Oberth to me.

Could be worse:
I've read threads (in other forums) claims that the Millennium Falcon is in that [battle] scene as well. It even includes a grainy closeup of it and all.
Supposedly it is some sort of "Easter Egg" tribute thing...personally I thought it was a Sasquatch.

Just one of the ideas that I kicked around. Same with the Bonestall in BOBW.
Seems like al-Qaeda's influence stretches into the 24th century.
*bad taste*
BTW, wasn't this scene all CGI? Or were there some physical models involved? If not, could this Oberth still be labeled as the Valiant from "Generations," or could it be just a non-detailed CG creation?

The Oberth's nacelles are attached to the primary hull. Nacelles on the ship in question appear unattached to the primary hull. Based on this observation, I feel this is not an Oberth-Class starship.

No, this scene still used models...most notably, the Nebula-class model was used (it's deflector is different from the CGI versions that usually just borrow parts from the Galaxy-class).

I slapped an Oberth model on there at the same angle and it pretty much matches up. There's shadowing on the movie's ship that obscures some of it, but it still looks like the same type of ship.

If anyone needs further proof that the ship in question is an Oberth, deadcujo can 'cap the next few frames following the phaser shot. The vessel passes around the front of the Borg cube and you see a ventral view of it. It is most definitely an Oberth.
And no, the First Contact battle was not entirely CGI. In fact, many people fail to note that they were still working extensively with physical models at this point, and there are probably more motion control effects than CGI effects in the film.

Actually shooting at things is only one of the many tasks necessary during a battle, and is not of exclusive importance. (Knowing where to shoot, for instance, and telling who to shoot at what, when.)

I think there are two Oberths in that battle - one fires phasers from the lower-left portion of the screen, and the other's far in the background in the upper-right.
