The USS Nautilus and the USS Sovereign are the names of two ships in Starfleet. Could these ships be named after submarines, fictional and non-fictional?

Nautilus
Captain Nemo's ship in 20,0000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne

HMS Sovereign
Submarine of the Swiftsure Class, United Kingdom

I have a USS Thresher I designed, named after an American Sub. And I believe the Nautilus was a real US Navy Sub...

USS Nautilus, Miranda class, NCC-31910. . . almost certainly named after the ship in Verne's classic.

The Sovereign? Who knows? I assumed it was named for the royal title/rank, but if so I must admit it's an odd name (this is why I named my sister ship design the Monarch, BTW). Naming it after a submarine might make more sense. . .

Most of the starship names seem to continue naval traditions, rather than referring to what their name means in the first place. I don't think a starship class would be named for a non-democratic sovereign.

The Navy's first nuclear sub was called the Nautilus after Verne's ship.
