Has anybody noticed that there appear to exist 4 variants of the Miranda-class.
Check out my page: http://w1.314.telia.com/~u31412332/startrek/ships2.htm
All those stylized pics were scanned from the ST:E.
Any thoughts?

I don't know what the ship listed as Miranda Refit 3 is (it appears to be almost identical to the Lantree type refit) but the rest are simply equipment variations of the Miranda Class.

Just like the Excelsior Class has a version with extra equipment added, namely the Lakota and the Ent. B.

What's your question?

The Picture you have for Variant #1 is not a real picture from the Encyclopedia. The Nacelle looks way different than the other nacelles.

The picture you have for 'Variant #3' is actually #1.

always end up saying "Don't forget the big heavy eyebrows." Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky eyebrows too, and then they would get mad and eat the snowman.

My question is if anyone has seen my variant three onscreen? And thanks for pointing out that my variant 1 isnt right, Ill add the right one soon, but as far as I can see its not the nacelle thats wrong, but rather that something is missing from the main body.

At present there is the original miranda class and there are two variants in use by Starfleet. The type III you identified is the same as the type I. The original miranda class is the USS Reliant ie with the roll bar while variant I is the Lantree sans rollbar. The final variant is the Saratoga seen in the Emissary(DS9).

However, what about USS Brattain, aka USS Brittain? The Fact Files claim that this ship has the extra "side sponsons" of Sisko's Saratoga, plus the rollbar. The Encylopedia shows a ship without side sponsons but also incorrectly without a rollbar.

Did the Brattain have extra detail scabbed onto it for "Night Terrors", or is the Fact Files info erroneous? And what do those odd horizontal bars on the nacelle pylons, the ones that differentiate pIn'a'Sov's variants 1 and 3, really look like?

I haven't seen "Night Terrors", and photographs of the model or screencaps of the ship have so far been inconclusive. The Brattain does not seem to have the full side sponsons of the Saratoga, but it is possible she has the strange three horizontal bars on the side of each pylon.

The episode of night terrors show the Brattain with a rollbar therefore no matter what the encyclopedia says its a miranda class original.

But does it have anything extra on the nacelle pylons?

Looks exactly like the Reliant to me.

The Brattain looks like an Original Miranda Class Starship. The Warp Nacelles look the same as the USS Reliant and it has the roll bar on top. There is nothing else different about it apart fro mhaving less crew than the reliant.

It's exactly like the Reliant-roll bar, no pods jutting from the sides, aside from the crew amount difference of the two ships, they might as well be sister ships.
The U.S.S. Saratoga was ugly in my opinion-give me a rollbar anyday (might explain my love for the Akira...)

I'm thinking that your "variant #3" is actaully a mistake from the encyclopedia. Those horizontal bars are almost surely something that was part of the Saratoga variant only. They were probably somehow accidentally added to the Lantree variant diagram, also. I would say that the daigram you have listed as "variant #1" is the correct Lantree variant, and #3 is just a screwed-up version of the same.

Yeah, I think I agree, the ST:E is in error, how unusual ;-)
