The entry reads:
"The ship that escorted Admiral Satie to the USS Enterprise for a security breach investigation on stardate 44769.2. The ship also transported Dr. Julian Bashir to Deep Space Nine. Named for the discoverer of warp drive, Zefram Cochrane."

Additional information-
The USS Cochrane is seen in the episodes "The Game" and "A Fistful of Datas", as a standin for the USS Biko. In the episode "The Emissary", the USS Yosemite is a standin for the USS Cochrane. The only picture that I know of that shows the USS Cochrane is from the expanded Star Trek ships site. The image is not the best. Web page is (the link doesn't work, just visit the site): www.cs.umanitoba.ca/~djc/startrek/pics/biko-s.jpg. Though the image is not clear as to the registry, the registry has this pattern: NCC-xxxx. (Look at the engineering section.) The known registry of this ship from the encyclopedia is of this pattern: NCC-xxxxx. Does anyone have the episode "The Drumhead" on video? If so, we might be able to deduce the registry. For in that episode, we are given a closer view of the USS Cochrane and her registry. This comes after a commercial break. Another possibility-Mr. Okuda is in charge of registries. Could someone contact him and ask him for the registry of the ship from the episode "The Drumhead"? (I find this error in registry to be very interesting-this is the second time that Mr. Okuda has given the wrong registry to an Oberth Class ship. The first is the USS Raman NCC-29487. Does he keep a record of all the ships and their registries or does he do the registries in the encyclopedia from his recollections?)

From the available evidence of the episodes, I would say that the USS Cochrane is an older starship from the early 24th century.

Are there any pics of the registry around?

I would have to dig through old threads, but wasn't there something about the actual registry of the Cochrane being NCC-6xxx?

The Cochrane was supposed to be NCC-8000. I don't know exactly where this comes from, but I believe it was the TNG Companion by Larry Nemecek.

Okay, so there never was a USS Biko version of the model, which means the Biko NCC was made up by Okuda to fill a vacancy (never mind the later confusion with Olympic class). Possibly Okuda also checked out "Emissary" and saw a ship called "Cochrane" in the script but knew it had been filmed using another model. He then deduced that since there was no real model for USS Cochrane, he could make up a registry for it, too. He did not realize the Oberth model HAD been labeled the Cochrane in the distant past, since he only began organizing these registry notes for the first Encyclopedia which came out after "Emissary".

At least this is how I think it could have happened. As for the Raman, Okuda would have checked out there was no model for it, either, and would have felt free to invent a registry. But where *did* the real Raman rego come from? An Okudagram?!

It was seen very clearly in a readout in the episode that showed the ship's course, or something to that effect.

I think got the episode the drumhead somewhere in storage. If you want i could have a look. Is the Cochrane near the start, middle or the end of the episode?

The USS Cochrane is seen at the beginning of the episode. My recollection is that the camera is focused on the ship, then travels at an upward angle to the USS Enterprise. Later in the episode, there is a second shot of the USS Cochrane. This shot is used as stock footage in later episodes. If you can get the registry, that will be great. Thank you.

The Oberth Class model has been redressed many times.
*NCC-638 USS Grissom
STIII-first use of model
STIV-second use of model (registry obscured by lighting.)
"The Naked Now"-third use of model (NCC-638 USS Grissom is standin for USS Tsiolkovsky. Proof is given at end of episode when the staship drifts into a solar fragment. This raises the question-where did the NCC-623 USS Copernicus originate from?)
*NCC-xxxx USS Cochrane
"The Drumhead"-fourth use of model. Model redressed with new registry.
"The Game"-stock footage
"A Fistful of Datas"-stock footage. Standin for USS Biko.
*NCC-19002 USS Yosemite
"Realm of Fear"-fifth use of model. Model redressed with new registry.
"Emissary"-sixth use of model. Standin for USS Cochrane.
*NCC-20000 USS Valiant
STVII-seventh and final use of model. Model redressed with new registry.

The NAR-18834 SS Vico and NCC-53847 USS Pegasus were specially constructed models of the Oberth Class model.

So let me see if I got this right.

The USS Cochrane NCC-59318 I have on my Oberth-class page should be changed to NCC-8000?

Secondly, where'd this USS Valiant NCC-20000 come from?

apparently the Valiant, NCC-20000 was supposedly the oberth class vessel from Generations, this however is unconfirmed.
