I'm learning Photoshop and have decided to use it to add backgrounds to some of my Starship models.
What do ya think?
Feedback is welcomed of course. [Wink]

The lighting on the ships don't match the lighting of the backgrounds. The ships are all lit from the front, but the backgrounds have a variety of light sources, some even in the picture itself.

The models look great, though. No apparent mesh errors (j/k)

Yeah...I pretend there is at least one other star in each photo! [Big Grin]
Lots of Trinary systems it seems... [Roll Eyes]
It's difficult for me to get good detail effects with the camera when they are lit from behind to match most backgrounds: the ships become silouttes.
The new stuff from the Hubble site is helping in this area though....the Merrimac over Jupiter is a new example.
Got any ships from the other albums you'd like to see with a background?

The thing with these scenary shots, though, Jason, is that you won't always get a ton of detail. Nature is sometimes quite skimpy on detail. At the very least, you'll need to lower the levels on the ships to help them blend in with your backgrounds. I'm all for sweet detail shots, but if you're trying to do scenic shots, you'll need ot lose some of the detail.

Yeah, I've noticed that too.
The ships actually look more "correct" with images from the Hubble than they do with CGI starscapes.
I'm hoping to add more Workbees to the shipyard scene though....
That's a great Workbee model: I'll have to get some shots with the manipulator arms attached too. [Wink]
Got any ships you'd like to se me attempt Aban?
I need to make a better Ageian pic for sure! [Big Grin]

I'm itching to do work on a Steamrunner and that Antares Class from the other thread... TOS version, baby!

That Steamrunner cutaway is sweet....
Alas, I ave no TOS ships or plans to do any: they just would look silly with the Dominion war era fleet. [Wink]

I'd have to build them first and I've already got to finish the Wolf 359 mystery ship, 2 Nebulas and the big freakin' 22" Dominion Battleship!
All that before Wonderfest in June.
Any particular design from the museum?
I like the TOS looking ships over the gaudily colored things myself....

There's about a dozen pre-TOS Federation Starfleet designs, most of them pretty small. Take your pick!
