Because the Star Trek universe is already overcrowded with designs, I decided to follow the Trekker's example and come up with my own scifi universe.
As you can see, this ship is still a WIP, as I still have to figure out the details and most of the technobabble.
The setting is somewhere at the end of this milennium. Apart from a few rogue colonies and the occasional pirates, space is quite peaceful. We have met a few aliens, but only a handful of them actually have recognizable signs of intelligence. Contact with the aliens is near impossible, and most of the time we just let eachother be. There have never been wars or conflicts between any of the species. Earth has colonies, and even colonies have colonies by this time. Earth and it's colonies are governed by the United Nations of Earth, which is basically an improved version of todays UN. It has set up the Space Forces to safeguard the colonies and supply lines from abovementioned pirates and rogues. The story gets more interesting when a new species joins the scene, and seems to be hostile.
Anyway... FTL is achieved by jumping in, out and through what I like to call Transit Space. Basically, the spike in front of the ship generates something psuedoscientific to 'penetrate' Transit Space, and the engines aft propel the ship through TS. Communications at FTL speed is only possible while in Transit Space, or of course by sending drones.
And ehm.. basically.. that's it. I still need some technologies for weapons and other stuff. But this is fun .
Oh, and the ships of this class are named after the Chinese provinces. Minus Taiwan and Tibet to avoid political ugliness.
-I'm glad there's no instantaneous FTL transmissions, that should make things a little more interesting.
Need more ships......
