I thought I'd share some of John payne's models with you Franz Joseph lovers:

Apparently the jig I made to align the two pods had a bit of a sag at either end. It's barely noticeable, but the aft pod does droop about a half a degree. Just enough to piss me off. But they're aligned perfectly when you look from above. There's a square brass rod inside the pods from front to back for alignment and strength.

I weathered the ol' girl up good - Ptolemy's been out cruising the spacelanes for a good long time.

The Franz Joseph fleet so far:

Pretty damn incredible, huh?

Holy outie bridge, Batman! The Ptolemy bridge crew must be really randy.

I think it's an excellent job, though. Alongside the other ships, it puts into perspective just how much stuff those pods could haul for their time.

Hmm, I made my CGI model of the Ptolemy using Franz Josephs blueprints as a template, and I sure as hell dont remember the bridge section looking like that! Nice model though, we see his stuff all the time over at the Trek BBS and he's certainly a top-notch physical model maker.

Dem cool! One question: why are there windows on the Impulse engine projection at the back of the saucer? Is that not the impulse engine on the Ptolemy?

I think that's supposed to be an older version Plotmey: thus the nacelle spikes, old impulse engines and bridge (both from the first pilot version Enterprise I believe).
