I looked up a prop replica for a zat gun... and the one I found was $345. Now that's obviously a ripoff. A complete ripoff. I mean, it's just a bunch of platic or fiberglass (it wasn't very clear). Anyway, I've heard of artists who make props themselves. Anyone have any resources in this area - either a direction I could go in towards eventually being able to make replicas like that myself, or an artist willing to be comissioned for less than that? Alternatively, anyone willing to sell one for less? I'm a poor college student so don't expect a fortune.

Hmmm....go to Borders (or wherever) and pick up an issue of Amazing Figure Modeler. I've seen great props cheap in there. Even a replica of Mal's gun from Firefly with real brass tubing is only $250, so more than that for a Zat is a rip.
...unless it telescopes open like the prop- then expect to pay.
