I am totally onboard with Starfleet uniforms being stuffed full of nanotech gizmos.

Or ya know, it could be just a cotton/polyester blend, judging by the way it gets all charred when those poor red shirts get zapped.

Eff you and the nanotech you rode in on. Microfiber is the wave of the future. Given the number of times we've seen folks sweating it out, I'm not sure we can assume that their uniforms have full A/C systems. But having a weave that polarizes or something so that it can "breathe" and do like a basketball-jersey when the wearer is hot and make like a wind-breaker when things get cold or windy seems perfectly plausible.

And as a big, warm sort of fella, I did sort of worry about the whole turtleneck, vests AND jacket (wool?) thing. There were the dickies (look it up, snickerers) even back in TOS, but I dunno if that was supposed to be how the actual uniform was or just a shortcut for costumers/warm actors.

(Actually, I would define really impressive future weaving technology as nanotech, or, rather, I would assume that the really impressive clothing of the imaginary future would be built with an eye toward molecular, uh, command and control. Or, like, those stainless jeans are nanotech, so there!)

Why weave when you can lay down one molecular thread/layer at a time with advanced replicator control?

Uniforms have not changed at all. They are still wearing the same as in TOS, but they have a Hypercolor-like effect that changes style as needed.

If Kirk was wearing a hypercolour shirt, why did it not change colour every time a woman walked into the room?
