I presume the connection is mostly based on artistic licence right?
Because if I go to Andor (Eps Ind) that would become 4.4ly + 9.7ly = 14.1ly instead of the direct 11.8ly an increase in distance by 20%.
Consider I want to go to AX Mic (one station further), direct line would be 12.9ly, however going via planet hopping it would then be 14.1ly + 4.1ly = 18.ly, increase by 40%.
Is roughly 20% more distance per step and as such more travel time worth carrying less fuel? I mean wouldn't the more decreasing and increasing of speed cost even more fuel?

Rev: The station colors are from my 30-ly map, so the z-axis colors are in steps of 1 parsec.
Kobi: The connections are based on likely commercial routes in 2190, which are a direct development of short fusion-era routes. So, although the direct route is shorter, the stops and the most popular routes are still the "local" routes. After 2190, the direct routes will become more popular, but drawing a map with all these spokes coming out from Earth would look sort of boring.

Yeah, the Coma Line sucks. Lots of winos and gangbangers.

I thought you had to get connections via Eden (after getting proper requests from UN Spacy), Corrizon (Depending on the time of year, The Republic or Empire) or Luthen (lots of paperwork from the local DCMS or ISF liason)...
of course that's assuming i've got the jist of the thread (i didn't bother to read page 1 yet)

If you mean the blue circly bits, that's the logo of the Andorian Empire. Tellar is the purple/red/yellow circles, & Vulcan is at bottom.

I figured it was Andorian, but I didn't know if it came from something canon or something fanon or if you designed it yourself.
