I'm posting this more because it's quiet here than because I'm in any way proud of this one.
A friend I do models for runs a couple of Trek RPGs, and in one his friend wants to fly a fighter 'based on an F14'. I've been teaching my mate how to use Lightwave but he's not up to modeling anything, so he asked if I could help. A Trek F14 fighter, eh? Ok...
I made a basic model of an F14 and then started to add Trek bits and pieces to make sure it was clearly Trek. Nowhere near as easy as I thought it would be, everything I do just sort of spoils the lovely Tomcat looks. I sat and stared at the bloody thing more than I modeled stuff on it. When I slap decals and pennants and stuff on it it'll look Trekkish, but I need to model stuff like thruster clusters and phasers and so forth first.

I want a A-10 with a replicator- allowing for limitless ordinance, fuel and ammo.

I'm holding my breath for the X-files/Macross/Star Trek/The Blue Brothers crossover due out next year...

Good luck with that.

Oh ye of little faith. Wait till you see it, it'll be breath-taking in it's Treknocity.
I think the only crossover I'd be prepared to look at would involve certain newsreaders and a variety of adult movies. Almost without fail every other crossover sucks on every level.

Awesome: Giant blue-grey aliens in Nazi uniforms vs. jake and Elwood in the new Bluesmobile Veritech with warp drive.

The jet mesh itself looks great...but I don't think it's possible to make this concept look aesthetically coherent. It puts me in mind of a random email I got some years back from some trekkie who'd done his car up to look like a shuttlecraft. Though it wasn't a particularly nice motor to start with, it still wasn't a pleasant sight.

I'm all for it. But my fighter designs were dismissed as too conventional.

Finally finished this thing off for the guy, adding a little more detail and some simple image maps. There's no fancy spec or diff maps here, it's simple decals on white backgrounds so the guy can make his own changes later. I've been teaching him the basics of Lightwave and he's now at the stage of altering models to suit himself, as long as it's not fancy.
By the way, it really brought back memories when I was rendering checks to see how the decals fitted. Boyhood afternoons spent fishing decals out of breakfast bowls and smearing them all over Airfix models. Ah, those were the days.
