Some people have been wondering what's become of my bridge sketches. They're still going, but recently I decided to have some fun with Photoshop and one of my favorite anime series, Macross (and its various spinoffs). Lately, I've been working on coloring some line art that I'd had lying around:

Enjoy...

Wonderful! But what are those big pod things attached to the shoulders of the 405's and the 505? Extra-extra engines?
It looks so uncomfortable and illogical. Must be harder to keep the balance of the vehichle...

Do you have any drawings of the VF-21? Skull? That's my favourite, being the layman that I am.

The big pods on the shoulders of the VF-19s are called FAST Packs, which is Macross lingo for Fuel And Sensor-Tactical or Fuel-Armor-Sensor-Tactical (depending on who you ask) packs. In this case, the shoulder pods are extra booster engines, fuel tanks, and missile launchers (the diamond-shaped things on the upper part are the exit ports). The shoulder packs become dorsal pods in fighter mode. The leg-mounted FAST packs are extra armor, fuel, and chaff dispensers. You can see what these things look like without them in other pics on the site.

Unless you're in space, which is the optimized environment for the VF-19 F and S models. The A model, not shown, is optimized for atmospheric combat. It's the production model of the plane you see in Macross Plus, available in video stores around the country!

Not entirely sure what you're taking about... But here're some pictures I've found of the YF-21 Prototype "Omega One" from Macross Plus, and the VF-1S Valkyrie from the original Macross series:

And while I'm at it, here are some pics of the VF-19A (aka the YF-19) and the VF-19F/S in their other modes:

Great pics, and a good site, that steelfalcon.
I have got to watch the original macross.
The VF-21S I referred to was the one from RoboTech, flown by Fokker.
It was the one painted black, yellow and white, after the actual 58th "Jolly Rogers". But it's allright, I have a few pictures of it.

Arrgh, I buy RoboTech-tapes now, but I can't watch it in a row because I have to rewatch them when my friends come and then a third time when my older brother visits. *sigh*

I downloaded the demo-version of the "SHOGO: Mobile Armour Division"-FPS, because I had seen they had mechas.
But it wasn't tri-configurable transformers, just the standard soldier-mode and then vehicle mode (which is pretty worthless). But they were much more agile than MechWarriors, which is good...

I know nothing about Macross, but this is killer work.

Amazing!

Neat pics!

Would you be inclined on doing some stuff from Gundam Wing? I'd KILL to have one of the Peacemillion.

Thanks for the comments, guys. No, I didn't draw them myself... I scanned in the original lineart, played with the proportions in Photoshop, re-copied a lot of the lines and filled in the colours. The original image is the first one at the top of the page. You'll notice that the other pics are somewhat taller and reproportioned to have longer limbs.

After that, I scanned in the alternate VF-19F type head, and twisted and shrunk it until it fit properly over the 19S head. Did the same thing with the rifle some of them are carrying. Then I re-drew the layers to make them fit, filled in the color, and no one's the wiser.

If anyone here doesn't know anything about Macross, go to your video store RIGHT NOW and rent Macross Plus. It's like Top Gun on steroids. With Giant Robots. And not unlike Trek, all the technology is backed up with loads of technical stuff you can find in artbooks and whatnot - if you can read Japanese, that is.

And finally, why would I need to colour in the Peacemillion fortress from Gundam Wing? It's painted white! I can probably make a scan of the lineart I have if you really want it, but I personally see no need to color it...

Mark

PS - Updated that site this evening: more stuff to look at.

Ah, Confucious say, "White come in many colors. Off white, egg shell, etc."

Seriously, (and I know I messed that up by misspelling the old guy's name...) nothing that is white is actually white. It all has some color to it form the light hitting it. And if you want a realistic feel to it, some of the panelling and stuff would be various shades of off-white.

Is the peacemillion fortress similar in size to the Superdimensional fortress? Can anyone post a pic with both ships, over/under?

Well, here's a pic o'Peacemillion:
http://mechadomain.gundam.com/gundam/w/mecha/peacemillion.htm

The Macross fortress was 1200m long. Which means that this thing's a heckuvalot bigger.

And which brings me to criticize one element of many Gundam series I don't like - they come out with stuff like this way tooo fast! Peacmillion just kina showed up one episode, without any background or history to it. Where'd it come from? And how did rebels manage to build it without anyone noticing?
