Ok, I'll bite. I would guess that you took a picture of the Earth and used those textures to paint your own planet. That's why the land looks real. Close?

Maybe you took a real satellite image, applied a color mask to it, and filled the masked region blue.

No really, Sol wins. I drew the outlines and scanned a sat view of earth and cut out small typical areas. I used a clone brush to paint those areas in.
Or maybe I rented a small interstellar charter and took a photograph of the planet.

Ummm....I don't know if putting up Star Wars quotes is such a cool idea. I saw the movie less than a week ago for the first time and I wouldn't like it I heard anything about it ahead of time..
