Suddenly, the sun exploded. Of course, it wasn't much of a surprise, seeing as Mac Calhoun had just failed to stop the missile containing the trilithium explosives from launching. But it was still a jarring experience. As the deserts bright light and heat dimmed, Calhoun couldn't help but wonder at what had led him here to this moment. Where the hell was Shelby?.. She should have been in orbit providing the usual last minute saves for his cowboy theatrics of beaming down alone. And how the hell had the sun already blown up? The missile should have taken a while to get there, unless Soran equipped it with a warp drive, for precisions sake. That would explain it traveling 8 light minutes nearly instantaneously. But had it really been eight minutes since the sun exploded? Thats how long it would take for the light the sun had already released to stop coming, since the sun he was watching collapse was really an image of the sun eight minutes ago. The apparent discontinuity he was percieving became instantly less important as the planet shattered when the shock wave hit it. Calhoun instantly deduced that the shock wave had been traveling at a speed which was less than the speed of light, since it had given him enough time to ponder all this. Then the planet disintegrated into the Nexus.
Shelby looked around the ruined bridge of the Ambassador-class starship, NCC-26517. Kebron was still standing at his post awaiting orders, even though the tactical station and Kebron himself had been driven about three feet into the floor by the impact of the saucer crashing into Veridian. The rest of the crew was sprawled about the wreckage, trying to regain their balance. A broken down old Redeemer vessel had caught the Excalibur with its shields down, causing a massive warp explosion in the secondary hull. The saucer had been lucky to get away from the blast, but had crashed on the nearby planet. "Well, another great save for the crew of the Excalibur! This will be one for the record books, huh?" Lefler crowed from ops, dusting off McHenry, who looked a little perturbed. "Not really" McHenry intoned. He cocked his head to the side, as if listening for something no one else could hear. He continued, and said matter-of-factly "The sun just exploded." Kebron grumbled, the sound of rocks grindting together. "Shit.."
Calhoun ran across the Terran landscape he had found himself in. He was beginning to understand how to sort the reality of the Nexus from the constructs of his own thoughts, as Guinan had shown him. Then he heard the sound of an axe hitting a block. The sound reminded him of Danteri executioners. He came through the trees to see a man splitting wood for burning. "Kirk." The man looked at him for a moment, then removed another log from the pile and placed it on the block. "My name is Captain Mackenzie Calhoun of the USS Excalibur.. an entire planet is in danger. Kirk.. you have to help me." The man looked up, squinted his eyes for a moment. "C'mon, breakfast is burning" "Listen to me!" Calhoun had had enough. He pulled back his fist, prepared to clock the man across the jaw to make him listen to what he was saying. "You son of a bitch!" Kirk was faster, putting an arm up to block, and pulling Calhoun's arm down. "Who the hell do you think you are!" Calhoun found himself on his face as Kirk stepped back. He took the opportunity to kick out his leg, catching Kirk in the knee. He took advantage of his opponent's loss of balance to regain his feet, tackling Kirk. The shoulder of Kirk's Starfleet shirt ripped away as the two struggled. The sudden freedom accorded to Kirk's arm allowed him enough leeway to swing a fist up into Calhoun's eye. "Bastard!" He rolled backwards with the punch, landing on his hindquarters. The two men stared at each other for a moment. Kirk panted. "You say there's work to be done, Captain?" Calhoun wiped the blood off his lip, nodding silently. Kirk helped him up. "I can't believe you were going to serve me breakfast. We need to get you out of here." "Agreed."

I was thinking that scenario, but im wondering just how violent it would be.. i mean, as much as Calhoun is a badass, he's still pretty securely on the side of the 'good guys'.. so im not sure he would be a murderer in that degree (we know that he has committed premeditated murder before, on really really really bad guys. twice that i can think of in his post-Xenex life.. the murder of the villain who killed Captain Kenyon's family after Kenyon killed himself [and everyone present assumes it was self defense], and then the murder of the Orion slave trader that killed his friend before Picard re-enlisted him.. the first time affected him so deeply that he never speaks of it and left Starfleet for 2 years because of it). Im not sure if it would translate to him murdering people who are annoyances rather than true villains. Even though he is a fan of mindless holo-carnage, his character hit a turning point when he visited the Xenexian version of Valhalla, and rather than enjoy the bloodlust, he decided to leave for a more sensible (less-violent) life.. Probably some sort of circus where Jellico gets pummelled and Calhoun gets to boss everyone around is likely.
