This is NBC's response to the severe ratings hit they took this season when ALL their major shows went on reruns or hiatus between February and May. Not enough people remembered to come back - so, they're going to have extra episodes to tide everyone over and keep them coming back. The Office and My Name is Earl are also back with expanded seasons, and they're bringing back Scrubs halfway again to help when The Office and Earl HAVE to take a break. It's an expensive season, but it's better than losing all their advertising dollars during the "traditional" break between February and May sweeps. Could be a very smart move, especially considering their new stuff lineup is VERY genre heavy.
