What I don't get is, why doesn't The Doctor just throw a brick at the window...that does have a tendency to break windows, even if they are deadlocked.

Donna is thankfully NOT saddled with being in love with the Doctor, which helps a LOT. She wants to see the universe, and the Doctor has her Tikka to Ride. Simple as that, and simple as it should be. Martha was a strong, forward character, but the unrequited feelings she had really slowed her down.
Still, she's been put to much better use with UNIT and fighting aliens pretty much as the Doctor used to, without a gun yet armed with her experience out there. A wonder why others of the Doctor's companions didn't end up recruited like this. I wonder if she's met Sarah Jane?

The transmission from the Doctor to the Soltarans that Donna eaves dropped on. As it's "tuning in" there's a brief glimpse of Rose mouthing the word "Doctor". One assumes she's trying to contact him, or is trapped somewhere (the void space thing perhaps?)
[EDIT] Just double checked it on BBC iPlayer just to be sure I wasn't seeing things. She appears at about 08:47. Oh and she's in the credits too.
