Could someone please help me with the following:
I don't remember neither the author, nor the name of the story. The plot of it, however, I can describe.
A man figures out that a certain stadium does not host real football matches with players and fans — instead, heavily guarded loudspeakers are producing the screams and shouts of the crowd, and so on.
Later he shares his newly acquired knowledge with a bartender (or was it somebody else?)... And disappears.
Who wrote this, what is the name of it and when was it written? Thank you indeed.

First of all, was it a short story or a novel? If the former, did you read it in a magazine, or an anthology, or somewhere else?

It was a rather short story in an anthology. American science fiction, I believe.
However, I read it in Russian about 15 years ago, when American and British authors were published under one cover as "capitalists"
