Normally I try not to react so much to rumors -- maybe it's just that Farscape is so dear to me -- but I've been reading a few messages and reports (yes, all third- and fourth-hand) that sound extremely promising about Farscape returning for a miniseries or "mini-season" run sometime soon! [Big Grin]

I don't usually visit the TrekBBS often anymore, but this one thread was at the top of the list in the "top threads" listing shown in TrekToday's sidebar.

Apparently this all started to come out into the open during a convention that's going on (this weekend, right now?) in Burbank. Here's the tidbits I've been able to glean:
  • The Farscape actors are "on hold." (I assume this means they're keeping their schedules open for a big project.)
  • The studios are reserved from December - February. (Definitely a big project!)
  • The sets are being built. (Thank God the fan outcry convinced the suits to just dismantle the sets instead of destroying them!
  • A three-part miniseries is apparently the goal for production. (This would probably mean six hours total, assuming two-hour parts like the "Galactica" remake, as well as "Taken.")
  • Ben Browder MAY have signed something (possibly some sort of letter of intent).
The above tidbits were apparently let slip by the actress who plays Sikozu, Raelee Hill. Dark Horizons seems to have picked this up, although I haven't found the quoted article from the TrekBBS thread. But it does say that someone tried to follow up with the Australian office, and got cussed out for asking (possibly implying some kind of gag order). A call to the American office received a "no comment at this time" response (emphasis added) with the obvious implication of something coming.

Also apparently, Richard Manning (one of the major writers) said something at the same convention: "Patience. Just a little while longer."

Now, put this all together. This current convention is probably (I'm guessing) the biggest Farscape event of the fall season... what better time would there be to make a surprise announcement to an auditorium full of screaming Farscape fans that their beloved show will be returning?

(I'll try not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I just pray that it's not the Sci-Fi channel that takes center stage to make the announcement.)

It certainly looks promising...but looks can be decieving.
Still I bloody well hope they won't just let it die, a fate it most certainly did not deserve.
I suddenly recall my reaction the the last 30 seconds of the last episode... "You gotta be fucking kidding me!"
What was the supposed reason for cancelling the show anyway?

Well, with Sci Fi channel calling the shots we'll probably see a "reimagining" of farscape with far more sex and Chrighton will be Jane Crighton.
D'Argo will just be a callsign and the Skerrans will have been made by the humanoids.

It's extremely expensive to produce. Not enough ad revenue to keep it afloat. Or something like that.

It's got to generate more revenue than the two flops they replaced it with:
Dream Team and Tremors.
I think Dream Team only lasted two episodes before being yanked.

Sci Fi owuld have more than enough money for Farscape if they'd stop producing shit TV movies like "Webs" every month.

I believe one of Sci-Fi's reasons was to indeed spend their money on such things as Dune, Taken, and Battlestar Galactica instead of FarScape.

By the way, what happened to their supposed plans for Tripping The Rift?

Actually... it's being said that this new project has NOTHING to do with the Sci-Fi Channel! They're not funding the production at all. (Meaning that the various campaigns have succeeded in raising sufficient funds, even indirectly through awareness and visibility.) The only question is, who's gonna show it? Some people have already said that they wouldn't watch a Farscape revival if it were on Sci-Fi, just because it was Sci-Fi that pulled the plug in the first place.

Personally, I would actually relish that scenario, because it would force those morons to admit their mistake.

Still no confirmation, but it's definitely clear that SOMETHING is going on... [Smile]

It's confirmed: CNN says they're doing a miniseries (according to the text scrolling arcoss the bottom of the screen anyway) nad Henson's Farscape creature shop is reportedly open again too!

Good news to be sure.....hopefully they'll just skip the cliffhanger explanation and do a stand--alone story.

I feel a little bit guilty now, I really enjoyed both Taken and CoD.

Not a chance. There is now way they're gonna cheat by just skipping over THAT cliffhanger!
The ending was obviously done that way for a reason for a reason, otherwise they would have just left it with the happy ending.

I thought Taken was awful.... long, drawn out, and ended like V.... Which I guess is almost 20 years old now....

But they do have to take care of that ending...

Taken became crap at the end: a very "Spielbergian" ending.

Gee, I wonder why that was. [Roll Eyes]

Taken was far from a masterpiece, or even a classic but it kept me interested enough to watch it all the way through, as it did some of you since otherwise you wouldn't have known how it ended.
My only real beef with it was that in the early episodes I had a hard time keeping track of all the different characters.

Actually, there was no reason for Spielberg's name to even be on it: no more than any Dreamworks produced movie anyway.
He didint direct or write Taken and had no direct involvment with the project as far as I know.
Sci Fi channel just plastered his name on everthing to make people watch and think it might be good.
And what do you know?
It worked.

The early episodes through the series' halfway point showcase the horror victims of the alien abductions were going through only to have everything be peachy-swell at the end: all those experiments were really done to HELP humanity.
Of course, all those in the government were total bastards too...they made the aliens look good by comparison.

As soon as they introduced the little girl I knew the end would blow.

I kept watching it thinking, 'It has got to get better.'

I was wrong. I place it on par with The Cube.
