I have never been too familiar with the Peter Pan story, i.e. never read the play or books, nor have I seen the Disney version - only in a picture book when I was a kid. I basically had no pre-conceptions about this movie. I LOVED it. It was a very beautiful movie. It was fun, sad and exciting. The effects can't go unmentioned - they were TRULY spectacular. The sets were amazingly beautiful and the acting - VERY well done by everyone - including Jason Isaacs (Hook) and Wendy (Rachel Hurd-Wood). Jeremy Sumpter (Peter Pan) is quite precocious, though - which is annoying - but is probably just the Peter Pan character - if so he's either pulled it off well or they cast the right boy for the role. Some people have said that he is too old - nonsense - he and Wendy are the correct ages to make to story sensible. Maybe these are the same people who think Harry, Ron and Hermione should stay 10 for the next 7 years when they are clearly supposed to grow throughout the whole Harry Potter series. I thoroughly enjoyed Peter Pan - and any kid - or adult for the that matter will definately enjoy it.
I give it 4/5 stars!

Harry, Ron and Hermione are 11 when they first arrive at Hogwarts.
Sorry.

It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

The main reason why I don't want to see this is that I really, really, really hate Peter Pan. I hated him during "Hook", and I couldn't stand him during the Disney version. I know people often root for bad guys, but I was just begging for Hook to catch him and cut his face to ribbons. The annoying little shit. Grr.
Hate.

Considering PP was Robin Williams in "Hook"...
I really, really don't think you should use the Disney-ised version of PP nor the chintzy "Hook" to pass judgement on this really good movie. Supposedly it is very true to the original play/story. It is dark in some places too... i.e. Tinkerbell... is not all magic wands, tiny shoes and julia roberts'z.

I saw the film today. From having read the original stories, I agree that this film is very close to the source material. I thought the film was very well done and the characters were fully realized by the cast. If I had any complaints, it would be in the final battle between Peter Pan and Hook. When they are fighting, there is a garish red color to the proceedings. The color is distracting and harsh to the eyes.
