This one seemed fairly straightforward to me, not really any suprises. It was a little different in the way they told it, though, with flashbacks until you get to present time. I'm also not suprised that it was the resident offworld Whipping Boy that was under those bandages.
This was the first time they emerged from a museum piece, though. And Daniel did notice that many people wore the Stargate as a symbol around their neck, similar to the way many people wear the cross here.
I don't know. It was interesting, but it wasn't really a strong episode for me.
In other news, I learned from Gateworld.net that Claudia Black (Farscape) will be in one episode. And....
(future $$$$$) . . . The actress that played Osiris won't return this season. Pity.

I'm generally not a fan of self-contained stories like this that span any great length of time. Three months is just an awfully long period to have a character retroactively "vanish" from a show that, on average, only jumps forward two and a half weeks per week. It messes up the chronology of a season too much, in my non-writer opinion.
Also, I think this was an episode that belonged in season three, maybe. SG-1 isn't really about exploration anymore, and it just felt out of place and isolated after everything that has happened since, I don't know, Full Circle. So.

SG-1 is still the "flagship" unit. They're charged with first contacts and big diplomatic meetings as well as the special-ops stuff they've become more accustomed to with the primary mission of bringing back alien tech. At least once a season these days they're still seen exploring other worlds - last year, "Revisions", "Lifeboat" and "Grace" were out of the primary mythology.
I liked this episode, though to be truthful this can't be ALL SG-1 has been doing for three months. There was a month or more up to the point that Daniel got stuck in the war, so they could and probably were doing other missions in between the flashbacks. From the point the war started to the point Daniel woke up couldn't be more than a couple weeks, no? And then a week or two afterwards?
Oh yeah, it's also good to hear that SG-9 is still the designated diplomacy team of the SGC...
