I don't really have a specific idea, but I do remember watching it in the 80's. Might be fodder for a reboot, if they had some good writing.

Hmmm how about reboots of old cartoons into live-action shows? NO ONE remembers this cartoon - but I really liked it: Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea - had an eerie feel about it - dealt with ancient Mayans or Incas that live in a deep underground realm - and their 'sun' is dying.

Funky golden robot bird jet was from Mysterious Cities of Gold, which I think was often aired back-to-back with Spartakus on Nickelodeon.

And Spartakus rocked. I need that cartoon on DVD. Badly.
