ahhh yes. Quantum torpedos, pulse phasers, ablative armor. It was first designed to combat the borg, but when they became less of a threat to the Federation, the Defiant was shelved only to be revived later to deal with the Dominion. It also features an oversized warp core to power those pulse phasers with which I would NOT wanna be on the recieving end of those things! The prorotype was also equiped with a cloaking device on loan from the Romulan Empire in exchange for intellegence on the Dominion. It is unclear weather ALL Defiant class starships are equiped with cloaking devices or weather it was just the prototype.
