I was looking for an old post. Didn’t find it, but I came across a thread talking about the Nemesis phaser. And something I said leapt out:

… and it just struck me that twenty years after that post, we did actually get “the last outing of the Star Trek that has anything to do with Gene” in the form of PIC - and what did they do? “Give them large pistol-shaped blasters”!
OK, not particularly interesting, but it tickled me…
