A sad tale of woe.

Or, for those with short attention spans:

"Unable to come to financial terms with the three women who voice the Cartoon Network's Powerpuff Girls, the network will seek sound-alike voice-over talent to replace them in the upcoming Powerpuff feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter."

Two things.

1) This was posted on the far right of the website:

The actresses who provide the voices for the Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network have signe on for the feature-film version of the animated show after all, Variety reported. Filmakers had threatened to replace the voice-over actresses in a debate over compensation

And now for #2 ...

Who/What are the Powerpuff Girls?!

Still, even this isn't as bad as the worst case scenario. Replacing the voice actresses with famous movie "stars". Cameron Diaz as Buttercup? *shudders*

The Powerpuff Girls are the creation of Craig McKraken. Three kindergarden going girls with superpowers who beat the crap out of people. It's a highly styleised cartoon, with both pays homage to and takes the piss out of anime.

It is very similar in style (animation and writing) to Dexter's Lab, which McKraken worked on. The creator of Dexter's Lab, Gendy Tsartakorfskfroimblingypoopsky, also does a lot of work on the PPG. It looked like Gendy and Craig just swapped roles on both shows.

Oh, and their main villian is Mojo Jojo. He is the best villian in the world, because he is evil, and it is that evilness which will allow him, Mojo Jojo, to destroy the Powerpuff Girls and take over the world. Because taking over the world requires that there be no opposition, and the Powerpuff Girls are his opposition, so if they were gone, he could rule everything, since the non-being-thereness of the Powerpuff Girls would leave him unhindered in taking-over-the-world desire.

Tsk, kids have much better cartoons now than we used to have.

And the soundtrack CD rocks ass. How perfect that Buttercup had her song done by Shonen Knife?

Ugh... despite what anyone else here might say, the Powerpuff Girls aren't really that great a cartoon. Maybe a step up from Cow and Chicken, but it certainly is nowhere near the quality of Thundercats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Thundercats; the watered down pseudo-anime with the worst voice acting in the world? Or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; the watered down version of a fairly good comic, with some of the most annoying and forced "coolness" moments in TV ever (although Krang was cool).

Tsk, have you not seen "The Powerpuff Girls Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever"? It's 12 minutes of sheer class, matched only by the genius of the Speedracer piss-take episode of Dexter's Lab.

I must agree, powerpuff girls are not that great. I prefer turtles, transformers, gijoe, or he-man over them on any giving day. In fact I just watched transformers the movie the other day.

To borrow a page from Ultra Magnus, 80's cartoons = suck. I'm sorry, but it's true.

I'm still waiting for the fact that Leonard Nimoy was the voice of Galvatron to pop up somewhere in the famed "Series ????" story thread.
