Holy shit! I knew we'd see Powell resign...and there had been talk of Ashcroft leaving to start some cult or something but this is just freaky. Tom Ridge just resigned too!
It's like all my hopes for Bush losing the election are coming true but the man himself is still there!
Questions for you Flarites: Wow do you think Connie Rice will fare in Powell's position as a woman having t deal with so many arab leaders? Will it be areal hinderance or do you think the position is enough weight to clear that obstacle?
Anyone know the current crop of replacment choices for the open positions?

Like I said before, it's quite common for Cabinet members NOT to stay for the second term. Clinton kept, I think, 3 out of 14 members for his entire term. Reagan only kept one (well, two if you count Sec. of State Shultz - his predecessor only stayed around one year).

Never before have these key positions been so imporntant though
It still seems as though many are leaving now...while the gettin's good.
Could be worse though: I understand the #2 choice for Sec of State is a real bible-thumper.

I dunno... I would think the height of the Cold War would be a pretty important time, too. Of course, I was in 4th grade in 1984 and only cared about Knight Rider and the A-Team.

Hmmm....I was on the "A-Team" mentality back then as well, but I recall there was far more sense of security back then (mabye it was just that the press was more reigned in and our sense of invulnerability was at an all-time high).

It did give one a certain sense of security to know that, if you had a problem and no-one else could help, and if you could find them, maybe you could hire the A-Team, yes.

It's just a good thing no one ever thought to watch Murdock: much like no one thought to watch Bin Laden in the late 90's, I suppose. Bin Laden just loses the wackiness factor though.

Condolezza Rice -> Anti Canadian.
Having Condi there will not improve relations between Canada and the US. In fact, Bush is scheduled to make his FIRST official visit to Canada in four fricken years (still no thank you for our help in the immediate aftermath of 9-11). Last I heard, Condi is trying to stop him.
