"Caprica" will be set more than 50 years prior to the events of "Battlestar Galactica" and focus on the lives of two families -- the Adamas (ancestors of future Galactica commander William) and the Graystones. Humankind's Twelve Colonies are at peace and on the verge of a technological breakthrough: the first Cylon.

As "Battlestar Galactica" is about a lot more than space battles, "Caprica" will be as much family drama as sci-fi tale. Remi Aubuchon ("The Lyon's Den," "24") is writing the pilot script; "Galactica" veterans Ronald D. Moore and David Eick will executive produce it.

I'm excited. Bet we see it January '07.

Um. Huh?

How, in any case, would a prequel make Galactica better?

1. George Lucas.

2. Rick Berman & Brannon Braga.

3. J. J. Abrams.

Or were you just being sarcastic?

Also, isn't Adama at least 50+ years old? That's a pretty liberal definition of ancestor.

Also, what the?

Also, Battlestar Galactica is basically our society with a few tweaks dropped into an extreme sf situation. Remove the situation and you've got. . . ? Dallas with octagonal paper?

(Bottom line: More of a favorite thing is great, but the potential dilution of a favorite thing is scary.)

Wasn't that one debunked?

And are you seriously saying that the other two were in their "right fucking minds" ?

In the case of Lucas, absolutely. He knew he was going to do this from day one, and he made quite a bit of money from it.

In the case of B&B, sort of. Not having an original thought in their heads, they decided to do a prequel since it worked out so well with George (my speculation). It didn't work out so well with them, though. However, the IDEA of doing a prequel to the Star Trek universe was an inherently good one, if done correctly and with a careful, thought-out plan. Since neither one of those qualities applied to Enterprise, it failed.

I'll bet you ten bucks that if you asked JJ who Robert April was, he'd look at you funny and say, "Robert who?"

I have no desire to see Dirk Benedict's tits. I might, however, drink some of his beer.

There are so many things wrong with that that even I can't even begin to start.

And yes... he might not know Robert April...
