We saw it coming... Gateworld.net confirms the latest (and last for quite a while, most likely) Stargate series will bow with a cliffhanger at the end of the second season.

Damn. I liked the show, and it had indeed improved quite a bit. Now all I've got to watch on Tuesdays is "Glee" for 2011, and unlike SGU THAT show's quality had been decreasing IMO. Guess Tuesday will become games night...

I'm just hoping that SGU will have enough closure to it at the end of the season, but I doubt it. SG-1 had "Unending" and SGA had "Enemy at the Gate", and while neither was intended as a series finale, both had enough closure to at least let the audiences sign off the show with some measure of satisfaction. I really doubt we'll get too much from the SGU finale for the overall story arc we'd been teased about since the start... At best, we'll have some closure on the character arcs from this season before Destiny - and the franchise - sails of into the unknown, never to be heard from until some exec decides to do a reboot. Perhaps we'll get a text slide on a black screen revealing their ultimate fate:

"Young never remarried."

"He and Rush adopted four blue aliens and celebrated their 39th episode together last week."

"The Destiny crew never returned home."

Damn.

Grr. This makes me very angry.

TOLD YOU.

Not that I'm pleased to say that. Quite the opposite, in fact. I would have loved to be proven wrong.

For the first time in about ten years, there are ZERO shows on Syfy that I have interest in watching. As I said before, the fuckers wouldn't know how to hold on to a quality TV show if it bit them on the ass and didn't let go.

*shrug* I only watch Law & Order. or i game. fuck EVERYTHING MOTHER FUCKING EVERYTHING else...

Really? You guys are upset? I think it's the right decision. The show was aimless and meandering. It really *was* Melrose Place in space. But I do agree that there's nothing on SyFy worth watching, and that they're idiots.

It's funny; my parents, who also enjoy the show, commented around the end of the first season that they actually didn't like a lot of the main cast. The only likable ones for them were Eli and TJ. (They've since come to really like Greer, too.)

I can understand disliking the whole "Melrose Place" drama; it got a bit tiring at points, but that was kind of the whole purpose of the show: instead of your classic swashbuckling sci-fi heroes, we saw the wrong people having to face up to an extraordinary situation. Perhaps a flawed concept for a TV show, but I liked the premise enough to stick with it.

And I don't agree at all with the "aimless" part of it. Look back at the first season, especially the first half. They were very deliberate in setting up the show, establishing the ship, the survival problems, how to take control of parts of the ship, and that was before setting up any outside villains at all.

You may not agree with the pacing or the execution of that setup, but they most definitely had a plot planned out. I saw a lot of unusual ideas in Universe that had potential. And the show was plenty entertaining enough in the mean time that I was interested in keeping up with it.

I'm still firmly convinced that the main problem is the miscalculations of viewers and ratings in the 21st century television market. The kinds of viewers that Nielsen tracks are admittedly not the type of people who would keep up with Universe. And so the ratings tanked, even though there's a ton of fans out there watching the show on iTunes, Hulu, etc.

And just when you thought Syfy couldn't get any lower... the Universe actors found out they got cancelled via their fans on Twitter.

Well at least no reason to continue watching the channel save for reruns of TNG, bring on another 20 viewings of Descent parts 1 and 2. Man this has been a rough year for me, my family had to put down our pet cat yesterday. This is like sprinkles on a tragedy sundae.

OK this is royally FUCKED news!!

There HAS to be some sort of campaign against this. There are no more Sci-fi shows to watch on TV. For the first time in what? 25 years?? This is absurd!!

who are the current retards RUNNING syfy into the dirt these days?

I would say "Unbelievable", but ever since they started splitting the broadcast day seemingly between "Ghost Hunters" and "WWF" with an occasional thrown in D- movie, I have come to expect nothing but garbage from this network. It is obviously being ran by individuals that are in no way appreciative of Science Fiction but are enamored with cheap "what wuz dat" reality crap and low budget fantasy forays that are more attuned to 12 year olds with third grade comprehension. These mental midgets throw up something splashy for effect but are unable to bring anything with real meat on its bones for consumption. That would probably require them to take time out from their daily D&D sessions.

Too bad we cannot maroon these executives a few galaxies away.

The last decade has certainly been tough on sci-fi shows. I'm starting to get to where I don't want to like the new ones because I hate to see them cancelled.

On the positive side, we still have an episode that has Eli meet McKay to look forward to. That should be worth a chuckle.

This completely sucks. I love the show. Finally we get a show with a good arc going with all kinds of potential to tie things together over the course of time... and they end *the 17-year franchise* on a friggin' cliffhanger.

It's the ultimate middle finger to fans who have supported their network.

*grumble*

Posted by Pensive's Wetness (Member # 1203) on :

simple. don't support the network...

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

Well, MGM hasn't said boo about this yet, so they may be shopping around for a network. There's a slim chance Space might pick it up, but I doubt it. Of course, NBC or CBS might pick it up to have something to compete with V, which has been renewed.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Here's hoping. Sounds like the actors are all pretty resigned to it though. So if they're going to find another network it better happen quick before people start getting jobs.

well after reading it's wiki entry...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

i'd say that it's dead Jim. Of course, this explains many things that we bitch about from TV & movies.

One, they think alot like congress, that they can fuck off with the cash today and care less about the deficite (because they will just ragequit when it becomes nessessary).

Two, they are seriously stupid with the money they had in the first place. How many times have they (the current exes at MgM banged thier heads at the loss of potential profit they could have had with thier titles once the age of DVDs came to be? clearly Old Ted was very wise in his hatcheting of assests back in the day...)

V has been renamed? To what?

As for SGU...that's a shame, just like Firefly. [Frown] I've not seen any SGU...at least I can save cash and buy the "complete" series. Networks just don't have stamina anymore. [Frown]

Renewed. Not renamed.

It's not worth saving money for. It's barely worth downloading. I didn't think anybody really liked SGU..I was getting a very 'meh' vibe around here in the SGU threads..but now it's cancelled and everyone's nerdraging [Wink] ....

Just because we didn't comment didn't mean we didn't watch it...

Don't listen to the naysayers like Daniel. I liked it and so did my friends! I'm VERY disappointed.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Maybe MGM can at least arrange to do an SGU movie to tie everything off. As if fan satisfaction will have anything to do with that decision...

Posted by Pensive's Wetness (Member # 1203) on :

LOL with who's money?

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Ark of Truth (which also wrapped up a series) made alot of money. Continuum didn't make as much, but it did make a profit.

Wait, are you suggesting not everyone on the internet posts their every thought and opinion on a daily basis? Crazy talk!! [Wink]

I didn't say I thought nobody watched it because there were no comments; I said I got a 'meh' feeling in the threads. That is, from the comments that *were* posted, it didn't seem to me that people really liked it (which isn't at all to say that I thought nobody was watching it - I watched it too). I guess I misinterpreted.

^I think that all had more to do with the board being much quieter of late. It tends to dampen discussion.

So true - my popping back here to post about the cancellation was my first post in quite some time. Dunno about you guys, but *I* blame being a daddy for a year now for drastically reducing my online geeking off here and elsewhere.

Still check in nearly every day, though - I'm currently re-watching SGA and seacign back through our weekly threads as we go, which is quite fun. Up to SGA "Travellers" now. [Smile]

I've been watching season 2 to-date on YouTube (since I don't have the cable). I just watched the fourth episode. No action. All character stuff. Yet it was a decent episode. It had some drama and tension and it furthered the mysteries they've been building on. I enjoy these slower episodes SO much more than I ever enjoyed the slower eps of SG1. I get a much more purposeful feeling when watching them.

I'm really going to miss this show.

I've seen too much SG now [Frown] It's getting to be like Star Trek - there's no point in watching it; I see the first few seconds and the rest of the episode plays out in my head [Razz] Been watchin Farrrrscap

Dude! You've spawned? When did that happen!?

If it's a girl, I hope you named her "Gwen" for the sake of continuing the tradition of pre-teen attempted patricide.

Just sayin...it would be funny in a horrible traumatic way. [Smile]

Welcome back, BTW.

Thanks, gang. Never really left, just never have time for the mega-long tech posts I and others used to do. Still love reading 'em though. [Smile] I only wish there was SOMETHING on TV worth MAKING mega-long tech posts about anymore. [Frown]
