We saw it coming... Gateworld.net confirms the latest (and last for quite a while, most likely) Stargate series will bow with a cliffhanger at the end of the second season.
Damn. I liked the show, and it had indeed improved quite a bit. Now all I've got to watch on Tuesdays is "Glee" for 2011, and unlike SGU THAT show's quality had been decreasing IMO. Guess Tuesday will become games night...
I'm just hoping that SGU will have enough closure to it at the end of the season, but I doubt it. SG-1 had "Unending" and SGA had "Enemy at the Gate", and while neither was intended as a series finale, both had enough closure to at least let the audiences sign off the show with some measure of satisfaction. I really doubt we'll get too much from the SGU finale for the overall story arc we'd been teased about since the start... At best, we'll have some closure on the character arcs from this season before Destiny - and the franchise - sails of into the unknown, never to be heard from until some exec decides to do a reboot. Perhaps we'll get a text slide on a black screen revealing their ultimate fate:
"Young never remarried."
"He and Rush adopted four blue aliens and celebrated their 39th episode together last week."
Not that I'm pleased to say that. Quite the opposite, in fact. I would have loved to be proven wrong.
For the first time in about ten years, there are ZERO shows on Syfy that I have interest in watching. As I said before, the fuckers wouldn't know how to hold on to a quality TV show if it bit them on the ass and didn't let go.

Really? You guys are upset? I think it's the right decision. The show was aimless and meandering. It really *was* Melrose Place in space. But I do agree that there's nothing on SyFy worth watching, and that they're idiots.

It's funny; my parents, who also enjoy the show, commented around the end of the first season that they actually didn't like a lot of the main cast. The only likable ones for them were Eli and TJ. (They've since come to really like Greer, too.)
I can understand disliking the whole "Melrose Place" drama; it got a bit tiring at points, but that was kind of the whole purpose of the show: instead of your classic swashbuckling sci-fi heroes, we saw the wrong people having to face up to an extraordinary situation. Perhaps a flawed concept for a TV show, but I liked the premise enough to stick with it.
And I don't agree at all with the "aimless" part of it. Look back at the first season, especially the first half. They were very deliberate in setting up the show, establishing the ship, the survival problems, how to take control of parts of the ship, and that was before setting up any outside villains at all.
You may not agree with the pacing or the execution of that setup, but they most definitely had a plot planned out. I saw a lot of unusual ideas in Universe that had potential. And the show was plenty entertaining enough in the mean time that I was interested in keeping up with it.
I'm still firmly convinced that the main problem is the miscalculations of viewers and ratings in the 21st century television market. The kinds of viewers that Nielsen tracks are admittedly not the type of people who would keep up with Universe. And so the ratings tanked, even though there's a ton of fans out there watching the show on iTunes, Hulu, etc.

Well at least no reason to continue watching the channel save for reruns of TNG, bring on another 20 viewings of Descent parts 1 and 2. Man this has been a rough year for me, my family had to put down our pet cat yesterday. This is like sprinkles on a tragedy sundae.

There HAS to be some sort of campaign against this. There are no more Sci-fi shows to watch on TV. For the first time in what? 25 years?? This is absurd!!

I would say "Unbelievable", but ever since they started splitting the broadcast day seemingly between "Ghost Hunters" and "WWF" with an occasional thrown in D- movie, I have come to expect nothing but garbage from this network. It is obviously being ran by individuals that are in no way appreciative of Science Fiction but are enamored with cheap "what wuz dat" reality crap and low budget fantasy forays that are more attuned to 12 year olds with third grade comprehension. These mental midgets throw up something splashy for effect but are unable to bring anything with real meat on its bones for consumption. That would probably require them to take time out from their daily D&D sessions.
Too bad we cannot maroon these executives a few galaxies away.

The last decade has certainly been tough on sci-fi shows. I'm starting to get to where I don't want to like the new ones because I hate to see them cancelled.
On the positive side, we still have an episode that has Eli meet McKay to look forward to. That should be worth a chuckle.
