He's hinting at the people who believe the brits only should blaim themselves for trying to control the irish and getting guerilla resistance in return, when some factions of IRA (esp. those new "True IRA"'s oir what they're called) are just as fanatic and generalizing about lifetaking as certain arabs...

Whether its the IRA or Islamic extremists - whether driven by territorial disputes or feuds over Gods and doctrines, acts of terrorism is to be utterly condemned. Period.

How ironic of you to say that, because that episode tried to teach NOT to make that particular half-assed decision. You've reevaluated since your proclamations of pacifism at your homepage?

The Irish keep getting mentioned because, for us, it's an obvious comparison.
Yes, there was nothing on this scale. But it was over a long period of time. You know the fear the US now has? That's the fear many Londoners had to put up with for decades.
This isn't to take away from the shock or tradegy of the situation at all, BTW. It's just a comment.
And Nimrod has raised a point. It's disturbing how many people (including some of you), who are normally peaceful, reasonable human beings, are adopting a "kill them all, nuke them back to the stone age" attitude. It's a little frightening.

It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Considering what we saw on television, even I want to take a phaser rifle and start blowing people up.

Nim: I still want to let it go. But it won't be. I'd prefer that it all stop here. But it won't & I realize that, & since there WILL be a "proportionate response," I'd rather it be a FULL one than a piddly one.

I don't think civilian casualties of a U.S. response will be possible to avoid, but hopefully, should it come time to attack Afghanistan or another country, we can do our best to limit attacks on civilians ...
In sad news, it doesn't seem likely that the people buried in the wreckage of the Twin Towers will be able to be rescued. In OK City, it took 17 days for everyone (dead and alive) to be removed from the rubble -- and that was only, maybe, a 12-story building. They've got two 110-story buildings, tens of thousands of people possibly buried in the wreckage (most dead, many alive).
And as we speak, the USS Enterprise, our most famous Supercarrier, and her battle group, are en-route for the Persian Gulf as Navy warships deploy across both coasts and the George Washington's battle group arrives to guard New York.

They said in the knews on Fox, that they've identified amost all the terrorists involved. they said they were Saudi Arabian and Egyptian. and they discused with someone about why cockpit doors should be sealable from the pilots side. it sound like a good idea. it migh stop alot of the hijackings. it would have saved untold lives in this situation. had the FAA not been lax in thier work. They said it best that government agencies are reactive instead of being proactive. They wait for a crisis to evolve then they change thier plans. in times like these, one must know that there have always been times like these. A crisis that will test humanities resolve to work to live in a safe clean world. I pray for the victims, the families and friends of those victims. and that the American government exacts a swift and brutal punishment for the terrorist and those who seek to harbour terrorist. I also pray for people not to take revenge on people not involved in this. IE, other muslims who had nothing to do with this.
