Well, granted Homicide: Life on the Street was set there. . . But I feel that while I'm not qualified to argue the point (having never been there myself), I do think that you should hold off on such a claim until you've visited Rio, Paris, Brussels. . . places I have been. I'm sure there are loads of others I haven't. 8)

I would counter your argument by saying that Houston is the greatest city in the United States, but I can't say it without giggling.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Baltimore is the greatest city ever, but I do know which city is the dirtiest ever: New Orleans.

I feel I should point out that Jeff did say "in the United States", not "in the world" or "ever"...

BTW, you don't want to go to East St. Louis. You really don't. Especially at night. And unarmed. And white. :-)

Paris is in Texas.

Well, it's not really here in Texas. We just have a cheap knock-off of the real Paris. It's true. They have a Eiffel Tower, but it's built with beer cans and belt buckles.

Bah. Baltimore is a pale shadow of The City. You can't even get anything to eat on a Saturday night after 2000. About the only things going for it are Constellation, the aquarium, Atomic Books, that giant porn clearinghouse on Rt. 40 east, John Waters, the occasional Otakon, & a certain cute Asian girl whose brains I really want to ball out.

Oh yah. And Super PDG up there. Werd.

I essentially started this thread because of Stingray's comments in the Flameboard. Anyway, part of what makes Baltimore the best city in the U.S. (or at least, until I move away from Baltimore...):

We've got the Ravens, and the Orioles ... and the National Aquarium, and Johns Hopkins University, as well as Towson University, Loyola University, Women's College of Notre Dame, Morgan State, UMBC, and the USS Constellation. We've also got the best crabs (as in, you know, the food) in the nation. We're rated #1 in the U.S. for meeting singles -- although we probably owe that a lot to our proximity to Washington, D.C. (half an hour away). We're the birthplace of Babe Ruth, and in 1939, it was here that the Jewish community protested the shore leave of a German warship. We've been seen in The X-Files, featured proudly in Homicide, and immortalized in films like "Diner." We're famous as the place where people say "hon." Tom Clancy has not only set scenes of books in Baltimore, but even in my own neighborhood.
