The Winston S. Churchill? Oh, of course, to differentiate it from the Winston Ray Churchill, named after the much-more-famous Congressman from North Dakota. I mean, really. . .

I've never seen a bulbous bow like that. That's about the coolest ship one could be assigned to nowadays in the US navy, but I guess those ships, with their strategic importance and so, has a lot of brass on them. Strict rules, lots of yelling and anal officers, I'll gather.
Or is it a small command?

I don't know what most of that armament stuff stands for, but it's a nice looking ship.

I'm not a Gunner's Mate so I'm not sure either. I do know what the CIWS is though. Close-In Weapons System. Fires 20mm rounds at inbound missiles. VLS stands for Vertical Launching System I think. The DDG launches missiles vertically just behind the 5in gun.

Of course, I should have recognized the Phalanx system.

I'm curious what those Bushmaster things are... [Confused]

I meant what would they be used for. The "low-angle" thing seems weird.

The 25mm Bushmaster is the main weapon on the M-2/M-3 Series Fighting Vehicle, and it's low-angle aspect is proably is to shoot at thing on and in the water, small terrorist boats coming along side and the such...

Yes, all american warships will receive the 2002 upgrade for their short distance arms deployment, from enemy boats to terrorist boats. Talk about purpose-built!

That would depend on how high your clearance goes. [Wink]

It's likely I'll always know something you don't, either... but the proper pronunciation of a species of icthyosaur that died out 43 million years ago probably isn't all that relevant. [Smile]

How relevant is the correct spelling of "ichthyosaur", though?
