I just started getting this charming new virus this morning:
quote:hello, I am from Switzerland and you'll don't believe me, but a trojan horse in on your computer. I've scanned the network-ports on the internet. (I know, that's illegal) And I have found your pc. Your pc is open on the internet for everybody! Because the services.exe trojan is running on your system. Check this, open the task manager and try to stop that! You'll see, you can't stop this trojan. When you use win98/me you can't see the trojan!!
On my system was this trojan, too! And I've found a tool to kill that bad thing. I hope that I've helped you!
Sorry for my bad english!
greets?

I might be somewhat more inclined to believe this message if I had a Windows machine in the first place, seeing as how my trusty iBook can't even catch a virus like that, and my Mac OS X firewall comes turned on by default.
Now, I already know that a big reason for the fast spread of viruses like So.Big and MyDoom are because people keep opening attachments, but after so much publicity spreading around, is it really possible that people will try to use this viru... er, I mean "tool"?
Or should I just stock up on more faith in the complete and utter stupidity of Humanity?

Services.exe is a Windows system file, actually. It's part of the operating system and has to run all the time. That's why the task manager won't let you stop it.

Oh that's right, I remember reading about that trick in the past -- convincing people to remove critical files to ruin their computer. Very funny.
I still can't believe I've been indicated, though...

Yeah, this is old. I knew a girl who fell for it, and ended up uninstalling some important Java Virtual Machine stuff. Well, I say "important", but she didn't notice for ages.
Er, what was the question?
-------------------- Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Well, it didn't used to be, but I haven't read the entirety of the Patriot Act, so I'm not really sure I'd be surprised...
