Monterey Park (County of Los Angeles), California, USA.

10. Convenient shopping, and lots of it.
9. BIG Trek conventions every year.
8. I can eat any kind of ethnic food I possibly want to at any time I want to.
7. My high school.
6. Major stop for touring Broadway musicals.
5. Disneyland.
4. I have the option of majoring in film production (which I'm seriously considering).
3. It's only a 4-hour trip to Las Vegas, which means I can easily visit during vacation and not have to live anywhere close to its hell-like weather.
2. Hollywood: see movies at the Mann's Chinese Theater, see actors on the streets, see Austin Powers's Time Machine on the freeway (which I did), and see live sitcoms for free at major studios. Need I say more?

And the Grand Finale...

Things I love about where I live.
1. I'm out in the country. Little or no pollution.
2. Wildlife runs through my back yard on a daily basis.
3. Largely friendly people.
4. No traffic on the way to work.
5. It's God's country.
6. I have quiet to read and quiet to think.
7. Life is simple.
8. The school has a great football team.
9. We have our own, pure, spring water.
10. On a clear night, you can see millions of stars.

Things I hate about where I live.
1. I'm out in the country. I'm allergic to molds, ragweed, and there's not an eligible bachelorette within 10 miles.
2. Wildlife rummages through my trash on a daily basis.
3. The people are largely friendly, as long as they believe you're just like them.
4. No ANYTHING on the way to work.
5. "God's Country" means the only people near enough to talk to are creationist fundies, and even _I_ get tired of arguing after a while.
6. I have too many things to do at my job and around the farm to read OR think.
7. So's the guy down the road. He steals letters out of mailboxes to have stuff to draw on.
8. None of them can spell, and the budget for the arts and sciences at the school have been slashed, but hey! We almost made it to the playoffs!
9. We have a septic tank which needs emptied.
10. There are 26 clear nights a year here, and 20 of them are in midwinter.

Good Things
1. SPACE:The Imagination Station.
2. Lots of rain and a colder climate.
3. Really cheap ADSL.
4. We're in British Columbia, the best Province.
5. PlayLand!
6. The SkyTrain and our other MassTransit systems.
7. We're the home of White Spot�.
8. We've only had 12 murders this year so far. *Hehe*
9. Only some of us are French. (The rest are Chinese.)
10. Our online high school which I attend, Connect.

Bad Things
1. Lots of rain and a colder climate.
2. We've had 12 murders this year.

4. Cody Linneberg if he buys a car in 3 months.
5. Graduated New Driver-Licencing.
6. Rated the 4th most expensive place to live on Earth.
7. Traffic.
8. Pan handlers.
9. Pan-handling traffic-walking squeegee-people.
10. We're too close to the USA. *Shudder*

But, in good humour, running for the hills won't help. That's usually where they lie in wait: at the top of a hill, so that you, the driver are unsuspecting.

1. Chemical Plants. They are everywhere. They pollute, and little is done to combat it. Things are better then when I was little, but it's been a federal effort.
2. Coal Mines. These guys still run the state, even though they employ less and less of the population. They own the current government.
3. We send a lot of politictions to prison.
4. Light pollution.
5. Chemical Plants, and Coal Mines. They suck!

Things I hate. Lo there are many, but lest I rant the numbering shall be 10.

#1 Freaking Conservative Bastards.

#2 With a name like Orange County one would suspect a fairly large number of oranges being produced. Yet, at last count there were 4 trees on the campus of Cal State Disneyland, er, Fullerton and roughly half an acre spread around the rest of the county.

#3 Strip mall culture. See that is where all the orange trees went. They plowed them under so that all the yuppie slimes could take their sport utes half a block (and 10 gallons of gas) down the road to get a fresh "wrap", a cup of Starbucks coffee, and Free Willy from the local Blockbuster.

#4 Freaking Conservative Bastards (a recurring theme in my Orange County "Living with the Klan Republicans" nightmare).

#5 Toll roads. One of the very few unique things about Los Angeles in general, and those of us who live here understand that Orange County is just an appendage of Los Angeles that was opportune for the "let's get away from the colored folk in L.A." urban sprawl. Ahem...where was I, oh, freeways are the defining feature of L.A. for good or for bad. Needless to say, the yuppies couldn't stand waiting in traffic with all the other flat heads who drive rusty 1985 Toyota Tercels lest they somehow bring down the re-sale value on the land yacht of the week so the got some of the rich fellows elected to State office and pushed through legislation that allowed developers to plow under acres and acres of wild lands so that the yuppie could drive in a free range manner. Of course the tolls are too high for the average driver to use (thereby relegating them to the jammed, but public roads) and the number of deer and other animals pancaked while crossing the roads has gone through the roof.

#6 Disneyland. Yeah it's a fun place to go and all Ziyal, but goodness, Anaheim is like one of those old company towns. They have the city council in their pocket and whatever they want gets passed. I think they are going to change the name of the city to Disneyheim some day. I think the "cast members" (casuse they ain't employees) get some sort of lobotomy when the start work on a daily basis. Come on now, the culture of Disney (along with McDonalds) has done more than anything to hinder what authentic American culture there may be and I live a few miles from ground zero.

#7 Developers. Orange County developers are a particularly virulent bunch therefore in need of special mention on my list. Aside from the orange trees that have become "planned communities" and the toll roads that flatten out deer and other wild life on a daily basis, there is a new development planned for the Newport Beach area. Nothing special about that I say, yuppies need new houses just like other form of bacteria; however, there is an interesting caveat in that they found the bones of an 8,000 year old person there. Presumably, to those silly anthropologists who read books rather than being out there and making money like other productive members of society, that means something. Like say there were people and maybe communities here long long ago. Maybe, just maybe those afore mentioned silly anthropology people should study the area and find out what some of the earliest inhabitants were like. Maybe we could find something about their culture or society. Naw, say the developers (naked mole rats may also substitute as names for developers, but that is unfair to the mole rats), insignificant the finding was. Houses must be put up now!!

#8 The lack of a real public transit system. The freeways (not the toll roads cause those are only in Orange County and lead to secret dens of the head yuppies) are clogged with people driving to L.A. on a daily basis. See, the people in Orange County learned a long time ago that one could work downtown i.e. Los Angeles, and live elsewhere; thereby they only have to deal with the unclean masses once a day and can even do that from behind the tinted windows of their BMW. Tinting makes the homeless on Skid Row look more normal.

#9 Gated communities. Most of the above described tinted window driving yuppies have moved into the "gated communities", all the rage now. Mostly for the above reasons as well. Tired, tattered and poor behind the yellow lines please.

#10 May have mentioned it: Freaking Conservative Bastards.

Hmm.... 10 good things, huh?

1. Tons and tons of trees everywhere..... I love trees!
2. 2 major casinos on Indian Reservation territory, both 15 to 20 minutes away from me.
3. Mystic Seaport, Old Saybrook, Mystic Village and other wonderful old Historic buildings and establishments nearby... (okay, about 30 minutes nearby, so maybe NOT so nearby, but.. whatever...)
4. The Tri-State Computer Fairs...... home of the best computer deals on the East Coast..
5. (can you tell i'm digging here?) .... The really awesome historic buildings from Victorian and Colonial periods, including a few castles ... Nearby, of course... not HERE.
6. The Slater Museum in Norwich, home of the MOST ACCURATE plaster casting collection of Ancient Greek statues and artifacts .. these castings were taken off the origionals WAY back before that was made illegal. All castings after that were made off of these castings or other ones... the only problem is the Fig leaves..
7. Stott Bro's bakery restaurant..... home of the BEST Lemon Meringue pie in a 50 mile radius... it's practically a SIN to eat this pie, that's how good it is.
8. Wal * Mart .
9. CC Bagel, The Liberty Tree, Americus on the Wharf, and THE WORST Friendly's, EVER.
10. Lilac Bushes..... Ours are some of the most beautiful.

Of course, there are probably better things about this town/ nearby area that I just can't think up at the moment, but there you go.
