Unfortunately, there are a lot more who would say that these days an even more-apt quote would be "Yeah? Well, then, tell us, Franklin - why do you HATE AMERICA?!"

Hmmm...there's no shortage of assholes in power just now, worldwide, come to think of it.
Besides, it was French culture Franklin was so enamored with (and his own celebrity status there)- not so much their governmental syatem.
