Well, porn is just fine with me. It's just as American as apple pie. Look where Playboy came from, and Playgirl. Porn is just a substitue for the real thing. If the opportunity cost of actually having sex is too great, there's always porn.
And what about Trek-themed porn? I have a pic of something called PlayBorg with Jeri Ryan on the cover.

There actually was a big conference in Stockholm six months ago, dealing with the abusing of women in the pornographic business.
Now, I like pornography for the most basic reasons, but there are so many guys, even friends of mine, who watch/read porn mainly because of the sometimes abusing and degrading treatment of women, with anal-sex, excessive facials and such.
I remember a documentary that showed a scene where a poor girl started bleeding (no, not menstruation) but she ignored it because she needed the money, and far be it from the guy to stop, he prolly went IN to the porn business (n.p.i) to be able to degrade girls.
I know I haven't seen or understood ALL aspects of the business as such, and it would be hypocrisy for me to oppose it as a whole, so the double standard of it really bothers me...

I think separating porn into artful/glamour/erotic, and everything else is a bit simplistic. And you're saying the entire San Fernando Valley-based US porn industry, with its hundreds of starlets, is based on degradation? Does Jenna Jameson feel degraded? Maybe we should ask her...

No, I doubt the women who act in the porn industry feel degraded (but then, how the hell would you or I know?) ... and you're right, it is simplistic, but do you have any other better reasoning?

Yeah, I mean, you got those 'Gonzo' videos which feature a guy who just goes up to girls and tries to persuade them to appear (unless it's all really faked, I wouldn't know, never - honestly - having seen one of the films of this sub-genre). No-one's forcing them to appear, and I suppose releasing the videos subsequently against the wishes of the girl opens up all sorts of legal questions...
