Not watching Voyager, will someone kindly inform as to who or what "Icheb" is?

As you neither watch it nor care to, does it matter?

Some rather dated spoilers here, but spoilers nonetheless, so preserve your eyes, ye unspoiled masses.

Icheb is a young man of indeterminate age, for reasons that will become apparent in a moment. His home planet had been attacked several times by the Borg, who had found several choice technologies there, but not enough to justify assimilating the Brunali, his species. So they just stopped by occassionally to pick up any new developments, kill or assimilate a few unlikely people and move on. Icheb happened to be picked up by the Borg as a boy. There's more to this, but let's wait a moment.

Fast forward to the latter half of season six, when Voyager comes across a very odd Borg cube. Odd because it is apparently crewed by only five drones, one of whom is the partially assimilated Icheb. All of them are children who had been in those wacky Borg maturation chambers when a virus swept through the ship, killing all of the drones aboard except for these partially assimilated children, safe inside their sealed chambers. Chambers which had malfunctioned after the disease and ejected their contents before they were done.

Suffice it to say, Voyager and crew managed to find a way to get through to these children and whisked them away before too much damage was done, though one did die, leaving four.

So, that's Icheb. Like Seven, the children were brilliant but unfocused, and rather scared. Eventually, the parent species of most of them were contacted and the children returned to some semblance of home, but Icheb was not, as it turned out that he had been engineered by the Brunali specifically for the purpose of being assimilated and passing on the disease that disabled that cube. Rather than let him be re-assimilated when his parents knocked him out and sent him back to the Collective on a ship, Voyager picked him up, and he has since then become part of the crew, happily studying stars and developing unhealthy crushes on Lieutenant Torres. The end.

Icheb is one of the four Borg children that the Voyager crew picked up in Season 6. A virus wiped out all of the adult Borg, leaving 5 Borg kids. The lead Borg kid was a major a-hole and was promptly killed by the end of the episode. Icheb and the 3 others were taken in by Voyager, deassimilated, and forced to live with 7 of 9 as their caretaker.

In Season 7, all but Icheb are returned to their families. Icheb found his last season, but his parents sent him to the Borg in the first place. Icheb is a late teenager (around 16 to 20, I'd guess) and has a "thing" for 7 of 9 (I think) and Torres.

Or, you can just read Sol's post.

Well, at least he likes older women...is that good for someone with his history?

I would point out that there were in fact SIX Borg children aboard the cube. There was also an infant that was beamed to the sickbay on Voyager, because it would have died otherwise. We never heard from it again.

Let's see...there were the twin boys (that's two), the girl (that's 3), Icheb (4), the kid who was in charge on the cube (that's 5)...who was the sixth? The one who couldn't talk right at first? Or was that Icheb?

Omega both brought up the sixth child and also explained who it is. The sixth child was the infant that started to die due to a malfunction in its maturation chamber so it was beamed to voyager never to be heard from again. 1 Icheb 2&3 the twins 4 the girl 5 the older boy that died 6 the infant

He said there were six children...also an infant. I took that to mean an infant in addition to the sixth child, but I guess the second sentance could be explaining the first rather than adding to it. My mistake.

Icheb was in a maturation chamber that had not fully developed him yet. He's probably only a few months older chronologically than he was when he was assimilated.

Don't those mat. chambers accelerate the growth of young drones?

Yes. Which is why I mentioned he was of indeterminate age. He's obviously intended to be in the 18ish age range, though. I'm not clear how old Seven is supposed to be either, biologically or otherwise. (It's Jeri Ryan's birthday today, you know. Not that that has any relavance whatsoever.)

How old is Jeri Ryan now then? Anyway, wasn't Annika Hansen assimilated when she was 8? And how long did she stay in the Borg Collective?

And did anyone see part of the preview for the next episode of Voyager with Seven in a silk red dress licking some guy's finger?

Sol: I was refering to Darkstar's post citing the difference between his age at assimilation and his current age. I simply meant that there probably isn't that much of a difference. If some dialouge stated that he was 8 when he was assimilated, then he's probably 9 at most even though he looks to be 18.
