Background In Voyager, we had Seven of Nine. The audience got to know her charming personality before the producers had her naked.
Enterprise In this new series, T'Pol is nearly naked in the premiere.
Can we have a side by side comparsion of these two women? I think I see some similarities in their looks, and I think this is indicative of the taste of a particular producer.
[I didn't like seeing 7 of 9 naked. There is nothing attractive in my book about a woman who is so thin that her ribs are prominently visible on her backside. "Q2"]

Did you watch the series premiere of NYPD Blue? In it, the first few scenes show David Caruso having sex with a woman. They showed Caruso's rear end and one of the woman's breasts. This was actual nudity on network television, and it raised a lot of ruckus. Most telling, we saw the star's rear end before even meeting him.
WHen they showed Seven of Nine nude, all they showed was her back. Not her rear end, just the back. I doubt Enterprise is going to show more than T'Pol's back (maybe her legs and bustline up) and Tucker's chest and back.

I don't think they ever showed breasts on NYPD Blue. They've gone to quite absurd lengths to show as much as they can without revealing certain "naughty bits."

I didn't think that breasts were the problem. Isn't it that evil of all evil things, the nipple, that causes people to scream that the devil is in control of their TV set?

Yes. The nipple is evil. As I recall (and this was quite awhile ago) we got a side shot of the breast and it showed everything it possinly could without being "too much".
But I may be remembering it wrong. As I said, that was a while ago.

It's all done so sterilely (?!). The only memorable one was the "Sipowicz and his wife in the shower" scene - "Boy, THAT's gonna be really clean!"

I know that in the first run of the premiere they showed the breast, but not the nipple. Back at the time it was really something. I think may have been further editted for reruns, though.
I actually watched the premiere of NYPD Blue way back then. I didn't know any of this stuff (partial nudity, profanity, etc) was going to be in it until I saw a full-page protest ad in the newspaper. Some Christian Family Values group was calling this show evil and highlighting all the naughty stuff in it. Then it jumped into bashing other shows. One had an instance of euthanasia, another had too teenage girls experimenting with lesbianism, one had a guy talking about masturbation, etc. They just on and on about how TV was ruining the family because series were adding these into episodes. The group listed exact episode names and numbers for all these examples, too.
But, the most amusing aspect of this whole thing, was that this ad prompted me to watch NYPD Blue that one time. And I would never have known if I hadn't seen that ad with all its example posted on the back of the comics section. Yep, they wanted to protect the children so they put cited examples of TV filth on the back page of the comics section.

I do belive Jeri Ryan's 'ribcage' was not quite that clearly visable. The ribcage should be slightly visible from the back on a health adult female. She looked quite average to me.

its people like this "Christian Family Values group" that make me absolutely hate uber-christians. they are the downfall of the free world and will eventually and hopefully die a slow horrible death. D

That's completely different. Pay channels can get away with just about anything up to actual penetration.

Still, I'm surprised at there being an actual full-frontal nudey shot. Was it one of the leads women? Because I imagine it'd be a bit strange working for a large group of people for a few years, knowing that they had all beheld her muff.

Ah, Showtime...I love that network. It has a little show called Queer As Folk where you can see full frontal shots of men and women in various sexual positions.
What were we talking about again?
