I rather like the idea of "Star Trek: The Next Voyage... ah fuck it" myself. It would be a new perspective to the universe. We could have a Captain Randy who goes around doing unPC/PD like things.

Does anyone think that arguing about whether they should wait 5 years before the next series is now a huge waste of time, since they obviously aren't going to wait?

The only thing that scares me down to my turnips (sorry Mark), is the possibility the title will read: "Gene Roddenberry's: Star Trek [insert name]". Ghu knows that his name has been used to sell two other sci-fi series - and it seems to say "Fukked-up series" in bold type (he had nothing to do with them except maybe scribble some notes on a napkin).

Both those "Gene Roddenberry's" were shows produced by Majel B Roddenberry and supposedly based on Gene's ideas. They weren't "official" Star Trek series, so "Roddenberry" was attached to the title to give them some brand recognition. Since Series V is an official "Star Trek" series produced by Paramount, I doubt they'd use "Roddenberry" in the title. The most you'll probably see is a credit saying "Based on 'Star Trek' created by Gene Roddenberry." Does Majel still get any money from Paramount for these official shows?
