Found this over at Scifi-art. I personally think this could be a great idea if done correctly. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/htx/eo/20000321/en/20000321482.html

I think I remember something from the time of ST6 about a new series called "The Captain Sulu Adventures" built around a new mission for the Excelsior and her captain following the Khitomer Incident. As I remember, that was why Christian Slater played a bit part as an ensign, in hopes of having a full-time role in the new series. Am I dreaming, or has someone else heard of this before?

Anyway, I'd love to see a Sulu/Excelsior show, even though the possiblities for messing up the continuity of the timeline are tremendous. I'll sign the petition!

I would love to see Capt. Sulu again. His appearance in "Flashback" was truly one of the highlights in Voyager.

However, I agree the danger of temporal incursions is immense. We would probably be presented a lot of technology that doesn't belong into the 2290's. I would demand a group of authors and designers who pay attention to what was presented in the movies and what was mentioned in TOS and TNG and afterwards.

If the airing and production schedule were not that strict (20 episodes per season, seven seasons) it would be possible to create a Sulu mini-series or a TV movie. Actually, this is what I would like to see most.

I don't think a big series run would be that good, maybe leave it to one or two seasons. This would lessen the chances of ruining things and making mistakes with continuity.

I stil think it's a great idea and would get ST back to what it used to be, may even solve problems such as comission dates for the Ambassador. Might even get to see some ships we've only heard about.

I have long been a proponent of a series of mini movies or mini series and I think that a Sulu series or Ent B series (both set after the TOS events in Generations) would be great candidates for this idea.

Minimizing opportunities for executive foul-ups regarding the time line will be key, though.

I guess I'll have to be the sole dissenting voice, then. I thought "Flashback" was tragically flawed. Takei's acting style seemed to consist of "I'm Sulu, and I'm acting!" moves. Which was particularily troubling, as I had enjoyed his turn as captain in The Undiscovered Country.

Beyond that, I'm just not interested in the basic premise. Oh, sure, I'd live to see it. But it is introverted to the extreme, and I can't see it reaching anyone who isn't a seriously hard core fan.

Sol: I pretty much agree with you about Takei's performance in "Flashback". He seemed kind of lost. But I think that in the past he has proved that he is a good enough actor to handle the center seat, and I wouldn't count him out just because he didn't pull off one episode.

I think a set of mini-series/telemovies and/or a series with Sulu would be BRILLIANT! It would be fantastic... just think of the possibilies. If it went ahead - they'd HAVE to Have Ron D. Moore I reckon...

George Takei is a wonderful actor, capable of giving great depth and scope to the roles he plays. I think a Captain Sulu series would provide an opportunity to finally develop this under-utilized character. I for one wish there has been more Sulu scenes in "The Undiscovered Country."

I think he's a little much. He always has to be so funny, like in that Praxis-incident.

You can hear that the script is telling him to say things he wouldn't normally say.

There has been a lot of arguments for and against a Capt.Sulu show. Like most fans I would love a show that was set after generations but before next generation. Although people already knows what will happen a new show might introduce a new race/storyline nothing to do with anything mentioned in next gen/ds9 and voyager. However the problem is George Takei and his acting is not the best and paramount might not want him to lead a show. If you heard any of the star trek audio tapes then you will know what i mean. But a mini series would be an excellent idea although the chances of this occuring is very unlikely.

If not a Sulu show, then how about an Ent B show (Star Trek: Middle Ages or something better than that)? I mean we;ve talked about this possibility before, too. It occurs after Generations and after Capt. Harriman has been sucked into a plasma intake (he thought it wasn't going to be installed until Tuesday). New Captain, no Tim Russ character, keep Sulu's daughter (there's your Sulu tie-in). It'd be a wide open field!!! Tholians! We could finally see Tholians!!

I'm with you, Aban. There's definitely an "Enterprise Legacy" to fill out here. With the right casting and solid writing, a New Star Trek series set on board the Enterprise-B could certainly be successful.

I would disagree with those who propose that any new series absolutely MUST be far removed from traditional Trek, either by setting it farther in the future, or far in the past (birth of the Federation type stuff), or way out on the other side of the galaxy (they did that already, anyway).

A new series set in the "contemporary" Movie-era would very naturally allow the inclusion of well-known characters who would of course be part of the timeline. Sulu has his command, Spock is now an Ambassador like his father, etc. I don't mean to suggest including these characters as a gimmick to earn ratings. A new series should focus on a new crew and captain, yet these established characters are unmistakably part of the tapestry of that timeline and including them every now and then would only make sense.

I couldn't agree more about getting rid of Harriman. What an awful letdown. How could such a spineless twit be captain of an Enterprise? His uniform didn't even fit correctly. Sure, it was only a throwaway character, but I think it would have made a better story if the new captain was gung-ho and very Kirk-like. They could have actually argued over who would adjust the deflector. Kirk would pull rank, and then make the supreme sacrifice, just like Spock did in STII.

I'm sure my desire to see an Enterprise-based Trek is in the minority, and it's not bloody likely to happen, but I can't help thinking it would help win back Star Trek's audience.

I have to agree with Aban a enterprise-B show is another good idea and I prefer a show set between the movie and TNG than all the rumours we keep hearing about. I fear if paramount mess up the next show it could be disaster for ST. It like the Golden goose story.

We could replace harriman since after the nexus incident harriman gets replaced by a new captain. Look capt.kirk was killed in his first mission and that would not look good on ones cv.

However i feel this idea or the excelisor idea will not happen.

I've thought about the Harriman thing and it makes sense to assume he was only in command of the Enterprise during its deep space trials. Since we witnessed its christening in Generations, we might assume that it was about to begin or had just completed its shake-down testing and command would then be passed to a qualified captain.
