Okay, I know that that catlike species to which Lt. M'Ress of TAS belonged (Caitians) were seen in the UFP Council Chambers in TVH. But, while looking through my Art of Star Trek book this morning, I came across this pic, also from the Council chambers in STIV.
And I said to myself, "Damn! That looks like Arex!" I flipped a few pages back to this pic of the character also from TAS, and I'd like to know what you guys think...
I'll have to go through the movie and Spike's caps again to see if I can see whether he's got 3 arms or not!

Actually, I see his point. And I don't see why someone should automatically discount any such suggestion given how we all overlook, say, the appearance of Klingons in TAS when compared to that of the Klingon ambassador in ST:VI. . . Well done, that primate! 8)

Well, not really. Chin is actually quite close, what with that little pointy part at the bottom. Mouth and nose/muzzle area are just about dead on. You're right about the eye ridges, but I'd be willing to accept them as creative lisence on the part of the makeup artist.
Knowing that in interviews, the makeup staff on TVH has said that they were specifically saluting TAS with some of the aliens in the film, (like the felines) I think it's quite possible. But I *would* liket o see if I can determine whether he has 3 arms or not. If not, then it's definitely not Arex's race, but if it is...

Another little tidbit regarding the Edoans from Edos. In "Broken Link" (DS9), Garak said he had cared for 'Edosian orchids' while working as a gardener at the Romulan Embassy. I'd like to think this is a tie-in to TAS .

I think it IS! Taking into account how the animated HUMANS look compared to real humans - as well as taking into account the makeup artist's creative liscence + How we know even the Klingons are different between the TOS movies and TNG/DS9/Voyager - I'm willing to give that the Edosian seal of approval! ;o)
I think he is. That jutting bit under the chin... the reptilian like appearance, the nose, the MOUTH, the colour and OTHER TAS tie ins in the council chamber. I say Edosian. Even if he doesn't have 3 arms - could be a half-Edosian! ;o)
Well spotted!

I'd like to add my vote for 'yea'. The resemblance is pretty hard. Even when some said that a couple of features were out of place, they're almost exact translations from the 2D-thinking of a cartoon to a 3D-model for makeup.

Well, I hate to now abandon my supporters, but I'll have to say that if the makeup dept wanted these to be Arex's species, they would have called them Edoans rather than 'Kasheeta.' They clearly had a knowledge of the TAS species because they named the cats Caitians. So now I regret to inform you that I have led you down a false path, and that I was...(gasp!)...WRONG!
Apologies, -MMoM

Is it sure that the name "Kasheeta" comes from the makeup dept? The name could be from an RPG source book.

Should we have the straws put closer to the edge of the counter, so you can grasp at them?
Arex was all neck.. that guy doesnt have one. He also doesnt have three arms. His eyes are 90 degrees off axis to Arex's eyes, as are his brow ridges.
