I was able to videotape the episode "Tacking into the Wind".
Several points about the runabout and runabouts in general-
1. thie runabout's correct registry is NCC-73918 (I made a mistake by stating the registry is NCC-73916)
2. this runabout has no name

My hypothesis-
Runabouts, along with scout ships (Insurrection) and shuttlecrafts, are given a registry before a name. The name is given by the commanding officer. Further, these ships have no dedication plaques. It could be that Starfleet sees these three types as auxiliary ships.
Evidence:
NCC-2544/10
NCC-75227
NCC-73918

I guess its supposed to be like you repulsed something such as the troops repulsed the attack.

Repulse was named after a British Navy Ship in one of the world wars. Many British Navy ships were named with verbs

But why wouldn't they use a relevant verb? I mean, what kind of name is HMS Repulse? Why not have HMS Fall Over and HMS Vomit, too...?

*points out that that was, indeed, a rhetorical question*

Another 17th Century Royal Navy ship was the HMS Association. Almost like an enterprise, really. . .

Repulse and defiant are nearly synonomous, so what's the hurt?
