And your image labeled "comparison" shows Equinox tilted relative to Voyager... can't you see both nacelles?

Itty bitty ship out there all alone... Here, little Equinox...

Well, I don't trust the MSD to accurately represent deck heights (case in point: Defiant). Therfore, I used the two comparison shots. The one that has the Equinox at an angle gave me a length of 144m (I accounted for the angle as best I could). The other one, which I think is actually better, gave me 138m. Therefore, I'm thinking around 140m, if we don't get a better figure (which I don't doubt we will).
As for why I think the one Frank labelled less accurate is actually more accurate... What I did was rotate the picture until the ships were actually horizontal, rather than at the angle they are. Then, the backs of the ships lined up vertically. Then, I looked at where the front of the Equinox lined up vertically w/ Voyager. As it turns out, it's right about where the top of that square thing for the rear torp launcher meets the main part of the hull. I used a better diagram of Voyager and measured from there to the back and got 138m. I think this is more accurate than trying to account for the weird angle of the ship in the first pic. Of course, it also assumes that the display in the second pic is supposed to be to scale...

TSN: while the MSD often get details wrong, none of them showed an incorrect number of decks or out-of-scale decks so far. You'd be pretty hard pressed to prove that for the Defiant using onscreen evidence.
I measured the MSD comparison pic by drawing diagonal lines on the picture and calculating their length (in PSP) using the Pythagorean theorem (w^2+h^2=length^2). The size I obtained is 120m for the Equinox, but 140m would not be inconceivable if we use a different Voy diagram.
The other pic gives us a 170m size for the Equinox. There are a couple of problems with this one - the view is not a schematic, it seems a bit tilted towards the viewer (which can be verified by looking at the MSD schematic), and thus shorter in height. We don't know if these are to scale, it would make sense for them to be to scale. I've posted a message asking Rick about the accuracy of this pic, so we'll see what the final length is.

*innocently* So, we have a ship based on the Defiant Pathfinder with a length in the 120m to 170m range? *runs away and hides*

The nacelles of the Nova-class vessel look similar to the concept design on page 178, section 17.2 of the TNG tech manual. Actually, as I see it more closely, it is the design from the Defiant pathfinder. I must have looked at it from a different angle.

*marks the calendar* Today's the day Frank and I agreed on something w/o even having to argue over it! *starts the party* :-)

Tim, this IS an occassion. You don't know how long I have waited for an agreement on ship lengths *L*.

Frank: are you sure that the animation has the ships right underneath each other? I haven't seen the ep, but the two look kinda 3D to me.
In any case this won't be a big deal; once we get Rick to give us the size, everything will be clear. It's sad, however, that a ship as insignficant as this received a better design treatment than the Defiant.
