Ok, These are the Ambassadors in alphabetical order, but I have no clue which are the new variant and which of the old variant. Can somebody please tell me?
Oh, Is there any ships that I might have missed?
Adelphi

The Enterprise-C is Type I, the Zhukov is Type II

There is also an Ambassador-class USS Yamaguchi, but the registry escapes me right now, as well as which variant it was.

Yamaguchi was Type II (I have the model of it, so I know)

Excalibur was shown in "Redemption", and was most likely Type I, but if you believe the New Frontier series, the Excalibur was refit, most likely changing her into a Type II

Hm... I thought the E-C was the only one shown that used the original model, and all subsequent onscreen appearances of the class were the upgrade. Though I could be wrong...

IIRC in "Redemption II" they used stock footage from "Yesterday's Enterprise" when they showed the Excalibur meet the Ent-D. That would make the Excalibur Type 1. I don't remember if they showed the Excalibur in another (completely new) scene though.

There was the scene of the entire fleet in formation, with the Galaxy in the lead, Sutherland off to the left, Valkyrie directly behind, and Excalibur off to the right. The ships were all seen from behind.

So that probably tells us something new, and also creates a contradiction:

If the model was modified between "Yesterday's E" and "Redemption", then the Excalibur suddenly receives a refit in deep space between these new shots and the recycled footage! If not, then we know the model was revamped later than the filming of "Redemption".

Are we any closer to finding out why the model received this revamping? Not only was detail added (a natural thing to do), and the saucer remounted (possibly because of damage to the model in storage), and the nacelles moved (because of the saucer remounting), but the aft shuttlebay was completely redone. This latter thing bothers me a lot.

Was it done just to get closer to the actual Sternbach blueprints (various versions of which IIRC were confused and misread by the modelmakers, so that lots of detail was left out and hull shapes were wrong)? Or is there a deeper reason for why the secondary hull suddenly gets cut off the saucer, remounted differently, and modified?

This is probably bull but it just occured to me that the Type II Ambassadors could be a completely new model from the Ent-C one. Do we know for sure that they're one and the same studio model?

It also seems like an incredible coincidence that there's two types of Ambassadors and two groups of like registries. There's the 105xx's and the 26xxx's. Now, we can assume that the Ent-C fits into the earlier batch and that the Zhukov should have been 26136. My point? The 105xx ships (and Ent-C) were Type I and the 26xxx ships were Type II.

And about the Excalibur. When the ships are in formation in "Redemption II" we only see a small portion of the ship giving no indication of what type it is. In the later stock footage Ent-D meeting it's also difficult to tell what's what. The stock would indicate Type I but technically the stock means that the Excalibur is the Ent-C. I rather like to think the Excalibur is Type II as indicated by the 26517 rego.

Dax: I think that I like your explanation the best, so I am going to incorporate it into my page. With your permission of course?

I don't have any problem with you using my theory, bear. Credit would be nice though.

I'm not sure about the Excalibur in the tachyon fleet. My tape isn't that good, and I can't clearly see if it's modified or not.
