It's been a while since I saw this first-season TNG episode so I thought I'd get some info. Now, the crew of the E-D speak of some kind of "repulsor/deflector cannon" which flings the E-D away (three days away at top speed IIRC) and the people down on this world threaten to do it again: "Be warned captain, (..) you will be flung so far away that by the time you get back, your children will be grandfathers.. (..)" Anyone has the specifics on this weapon? (it isn't in Encs I or II)

Picard should have called their bluff - then they wouldn't have gotten the Enterprise's children.

I don't think those people were bluffing... but what kind of ENERGY weapon can literally PUSH matter away, anyway? And how much energy would it consume?
