The forward console was re-used for just the Dauntless. The Equinox had a smaller, flat-topped console whose operational surface actually had a lip that curved under the front.

I've got a book called "Star Trek: Action!" that focuses in part on the production of "Hope and Fear." And I can tell you for certain that the Dauntless bridge was a brand new custom set, assembled specifically for that episode. Remember those fancy curved walls along the side? The freestanding operations/tactical consoles? There's no way they could've been converted into the Equinox later on. And since it was a brand-new set, it wasn't used for the Prometheus either.

If you want to get down to the science of it all, the most efficient bridge design would be a Captain sitting in the middle of a small room in the interior of the ship with all his officers surrounding him like a donut. This would look rather crappy for TV, and thus we thankfully stay away from it.
Unless you're SeaQuest. :-)

I remember Star Trek: Action... had a nice set of photos that showed how the Dauntless bridge was custom-made. The bridge really only used the seats from other Trek sets.
The Equinox bridge looks like it came from the Nebula Class bridges though...

The one thing the Prometheus bridge had going for it, which I liked, was a return to the old colour scheme of bright lights and light coloured walls. I loved the Enterprise-A bridge, and of course the Enterprise-D. Never really was a fan of the dark and dim, militarized feel of the Voyager bridge, for instance...

One of the things I never liked about the Prometheus bridge were those absurdly high steps right in front of the captain's chair. I guess OSHA doesn't exist in the 24th century -- wouldn't those steps pose a safety hazard for the commanding officer during a battle?

Yeah, they should have at least given the CO a little more legroom. Odds are though that they made the conn/ops pit larger than it should be, such that they could more easily compose shots for all the time Bob & Andy were down there.
Oh, and if you take a quick look at all the bridge pics on Bernd's site, you'll see that the Prommie forward console is indeed reused on the Dauntless, and that the Equinox console was different. So there.

I was under the impression that they had built a Bridge which they could destroy in "Year of Hell" and then reused that as the Equinox bridge later... am I wrong?

J: Admittedly it's been a while since I saw "Year of Hell," but I figured that they just trashed the regular set as an excuse to give the whole thing a facelift. There were scenes all across the bridge, from the helm station to the tactical console to the aft MSD. With all the close-ups, I'd be surprised to hear that they really did build an entire duplicate set for that one two-parter.
Remember, the surfaces we saw are just that -- the surfaces. For such a massive set, the production people also had to worry about a frame to support the whole thing -- that's no small construction job.
They could get away with it for some ships -- for example, the Dauntless was easy because those glowing curved walls were nothing but some boards and muslin. But for something as detailed as the Voyager bridge? I don't think so.
