The original rectangular (I believe USS Exeter?) insigina were on ebay some time ago. It looked more braided and had more texture. They actually looked considerably different from the shiny Encyclopedia drawings. I didn't save the pictures though.. is there any way to search old auctions?

If that auction was more that 6 months ago, ebay would have removed it from there servers, so even if you did have the auction number, the listing would no longer be there.

I downloaded those insignia. The trouble is they look incredibly crappy. But you can see a sort of fake leather texture for round thingy on the Defiant insignia.
