I am beginning to put together a vector version of the Intrepid from before. It will be a while, however. Other priorities and learning curve, you know. I hope to have a dorsal view within 2 weeks.

I'm going along pretty well learning Illustrator enough to make the Intrepid. However, I am unable to figure out how to make that thicker stroke once I'm done, the one that Masao and Reverend put on their projects to give them that finished look.

Can anyone walk me through it?

I could tell you how to do the Masao TrickTM in CorelDRAW, but then I'd have to kill you [Wink]

Well, thanks for the offer, but would it translate into something that would work in Illustrator?

There are several ways of doing it. The trick Reverend uses is to copy the schematic on a separate layer and keep only those objects forming the outline. Increase their line weight, then put the layer below everything else. Of course, the layers above have to be colored in and not just lines.

Just trying to picture that - why don't lines work? If they're on above layers why won't you still see them?

Here's a very WIP early version of what I've got on the Intrepid dorsal view.

Be gentle. [Smile]

Unfortunately I am unable to get the picture to load...well I take that back, only a portion of the outer ring of the saucer will load. [Frown]

Well the only observations I can honestly make, might be the 'wings' on the outer nacelles seem to start where the inner struts leave off...umm, or rather, the front face of the outer wings run nearly parallel with the rear face of the inner struts. But I'm far from a pro...let alone one to judge... [Razz]

I wasn't happy with the colors from the first version, so I deleted it down to white for now. I think I'm going to try both a straight-up gray-with-a-tinge-of-blue and a less-saturated version of the tan color scheme. In the meantime, I've cleaned up and evened out the structures.

I thought the same about the thin connecting structure too, but then I thought the NX-01 was too thin too. But, it's thin in that direction, but wide in the other direction, which structurally makes up for it. The Intrepid, on the other hand, isn't nearly as wide there where the dorsal slopes down into the warp field stabilizer.

Tell me what you think:

It looks so fragile where the back of the 'neck' and the 'nacelle hub' connect. [Wink]

Otherwise she's looking good!! [Smile] However, I get the impression that the Intrepid is an older Pre-NX model, so you might want to go the other way vesus NY. [Big Grin]
