$$$OBLIGATORY SPOILER WARNING$$$

It was good- I really liked it.
Leiv Sheriber stole the movie though- as Sabertooth (a character I loathe) he's smart, mean and, suprisingly, intresting.

No shit. Really.

Hear him on this past week's Wait Wait, Dont Tell Me game-radio-show- He's hysterical!

The movie suffers from "too many supers" like Spider 3 and X-3 and that kills any chance for character development.

I was VERY disapointed that Ryan Reynolds has such a tiny role- Deadpool fans should stick with the (fantastic) Hulk vs. Wolverine animated movie.

Also, there's a great cameo by our favorite Trek actor at the end.

I wouldn't call that cameo "great" exactly, some of the effects in this film were VERY dodgy.

Agreed - the scene towards the end was downright scary. They should have just shown the back of him. Some effects in the Wolvie movie were woeful. Like the bullet holes not moving with the rest of the body. Stuff that has easily been dealt with in many other movies. Having said that - some effects were really good!

The worst one, was the shot of the claws in the bathroom, oddly enough. Like you say though, they were mostly pretty good. I reckon they either ran out of time or money on them since they look more unfinished than anything else. But yeah, if they shot Patrick from behind, or from a distance then it would have worked fine.

Oh yeah - the claws in the bathroom weren't the best.

The biggest issue I had with the effects was the cheesy effect used for Maverick's teleport- it looked like an old TV turning off.

Some great moments-
-Young Cyclops destroying his school- they never showed his full power before then.
-Fred Dukes (pre-Blobification) destroying that tank by blocking the barrel with his fist!
-mini-cameo by Whirlwind in a cell- such an obscure mutant too!
-The woman doing the Adamantium bonding procedure is credited as being "Heather Hudson"- as in Logan's old friend from Alpha Flight!
Now that's shady!

I felt the after-effects of the bonding procedure were brushed off waaay too quickly- in the comics (which I understand this certainly is not) it's so traumatic it blanks Logan's mind.

Pet peeve- the Adamantium bullet would not penetrate his adamantium skull- and if it did, would'nt Logan have two holes in his skull and two metal slugs in his brain?!?

Better hope Magneto does not find out!! [Wink]

Well, I guess I can relax.

A Deadpool movie is go!
Yeah, he was left in pretty bad shape at the end of Wolverine, but he's been sown together from that before in the comics.

I just pray they lose those impossibly long Admantium blades!

I never saw the leaked workprint... But is the "original" Stewart visible there? I never bought the youthifying they used on him here and in X-3. Did Stewart even show up for this film, or did he just dub in his lines over the existing CG of his head?

It's really him- I cant imagine they'd do a CGI for an old clip somehow added in- if noting else it's definitely his voice.

I think it's a very nice touch- it cleverly shows why Gambit is not with the X-Men- he see the escaping kids are in good hands (with a waiting black helicopter no less) and backs off.

I read where there are actually TWO post-credit snippets depending on which theatre you go to.

Wolverine in (presumably) Japan... or Deadpool gathering him self back together and breaking the 4th wall.

I saw Wolverine in Japan.

Jason:

That seemed more like Quicksilver, moving at the speed of sound. He had Quicksilver's hair color and hairdo too.

In my opinion, Jackman did the best Wolverine-work so far. I thought they could've been more faithful to the "Origin" comic (Creed was supposed to be the kid nextdoor), but hey, at least they went there.

I liked the first half of the story, it felt solid up until Logan's escape from the Weapon-X lab. I didn't buy the whole "volunteer" angle at all, Logan changing his motivation and character drive once every two minutes. Besides, I've grown up with Wolverine having been kidnapped and forcibly experimented on, it's a big slice of who he is to me.

In this new fashion, all Logan does is lose it and kill a bunch of associates, very rude.
And after that, it feels like the script was written on a single all-nighter by 20 different authors, a different one for every scene: scene ##1, Stryker is a calm, collected Cambridge-professional. Scene ##2, Stryker personally kills his main government sponsor with a piece of sharp debris, displaying the foresight and mental sharpness of a drunk driver on "COPS".

And the act III plot holes weren't much better:
"Hey LeBeau, I need to get to The Island to kill Creed. What, is he actually standing behind me, in the alley? Oh ok, well I changed my mind, he's not important, I need to go to the Island anyway, to find Stryker! -Ok, I've found Stryker, but he's shown me that my girlfriend was fake, so now Stryker's suddenly not worth killing, I'm outta here. -Oh wait, the fake girlfriend is screaming, now I have to run back again and confront Creed and Stryker again, both of whom I've hunted down and then ignored twice now." It was worse than Batman's laughably intentional bike crash in "Dark Knight"; "I have to kill the Joker! No, I can't! Oh, but I must! Oh darn, I mustn't! Curse my Emo moral fiber!"

I had hopes for the "Wolverine" end credit bonus-scene, I thought they would introduce Madripoor, maybe throw in Viper, Yukio or Silver Samurai.

I think he says 'shhhh!'

Go to the X-men Origins: Wolverine wikipedia page it has it written there. I saw the Japan one. It wasn't worth it really. Would have rather have seen the Deadpool one.

Why make a movie on this guy? Really? Bah.

Are they still going to make the X-Men Origins: Magneto movie?

They did- Yukio was a ninja/bartender.
In fact, all asian girls are ninja bartenders- you just have to ask.

Hmmm...I'll have to go check that Whilwind/Quicksilver moment- I could have sworn he was spinning around in there.

One thing I can not reconcile is the vast diffrence between this Stryker and that cracker in X2.

Y'know, the origin story works sooo much better with Creed being his brother.

Leiv Shreiber made Sabertooth cool- even at the end, he saves Logan's ass.

Hey! Why did Wolverine's dogtags say "Logan" anyway?
They should have said "I volenteered for a painful experimental procedure and all I got was this crappy dogtag (and metal bones, which must really suck in winter).

Hey, I always like the Liev (he has a calculated 80% Pertwee* rating), but they made his Sabertooth too eloquent and sentimental for my taste, the comic book Creed cares nothing of bonds or alliances, he's childish and shortsighted, a textbook asshole.

Although I enjoyed "Watchmen" and "Sin City" a lot, they have hurt the comic book movie genre by being so very awesome. All the mainstream comic movies that have to keep to wimpy PG-13 rules can't compete with it. Getting through "Spiderman 3" after Sin City was like sitting in on a lecture on "the peculiar water salinity of german bogs", followed by a frigging Max Factor infomercial (Dunst, ed.note).
