SPACE being Canada's answer to the Sci-Fi Channel.

And, seriously, am I the only one who doesn't notice anything wrong with the dialogue? I guess I just don't pick things to bits like some people... I actually watch something and enjoy it, not desparately try to find something wrong with it. The only time I notice anything is when the acting is particularly bad (monotone voice, etc), or if it's really crappy VFX (like a guy getting a stick in his armpit when he's supposed to be getting stabbed).

Babylon 5 had a story in it. That's what makes it great, in my opinion. Also it has some of the coolest ships I've ever seen. They were even hired to make a few of the best ships on Voyager (Species 8472 ships and the Krenim timeship).

Also some of the aliens were actially very different than humanoids. The Shadows are absolutely awesome! And again, the company was hired to make Species 8472 on Voyager.

Yes. Remember that "IwantUtoMe" guy, and his MP3 redirect?

The former which looked like the Vorlon ships, and the latter like B5. Woah, imaginative.

Babylon5 is entertaining which is all it needs to be...
Aside from strong resemblance to LOTR and Bruce Boxleitner (bummer) it is fun.

as much as i love trek, i think that the best of B5 beats out all but the VERY best of TNG and TOS in terms of quality. don't even TRY to tell me that the dialogue is any worse in B5 than in DS9 or that mess that bragga made, i mean Voyager. trek has had some cheese, which most trek fans simply overlook. i also think that the worst episodes of trek are worse than the worst episodes of B5. also, the continuity of B5 was better, probably because larry niven was an advisor. B5 actually shows a credible view of the galaxy, with lots of non exacytly looking like human aliens, and many varied political interests. (yes, the centauri outwardly looked like humans, but their unique physiology was shown in several episodes, and it was mentioned that humans thought they were related to centauri's until they saw the *ahem* unique attributes of the centauri). also, i think that many of the ship ideas, especially concerning biological tech, was used in B5 better than in trek. B5 also has a more epic feel, in my opinion, than even the dominion war. B5 wasn't great all the time, but its good sides transcends the bad sides. by the way, centauri prime was the home planet of the centauri, and the republic was their empire. if there was an earth empire, this planet might be called earth prime. however, despite immensely enjoying B5, i still like trek better because of its unique trek ideology, and the fact that TOS and TNG were like horatio hornblower, but in space, which is very cool. well, the tech stuff doesn't hurt either

Well I'd say that's actually because J. Michael Straczynski wrote almost every episode himself.

Larry Niven? I think you mean Harlan Ellison, and he didn't seem to have much to do with the series at all. (Though I suspect his support went a long way towards getting it off the ground.)

Anyway, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think JMS produced a very brave and interesting but at the same time deeply flawed show. Look, I like it as much as anyone, you know. I just finished watching the final three episodes all at once, for Valen's sake. Still, there we are.

BTW: Does anyone know when the widescreen episodes will be available on tape?

As nice as the so-called "widescreen" version is...it isn't. All they did was blackbar the top & bottom, theus losing a couple key details. Example: at the end of "Severed Dreams," the closing shot of the closeup on the Nightwatch "TRAITORS CAN'T HIDE" poster has been completely fragged.

they didn't just black bar. the original film version had a slightly different aspect than tv. it isn't really WIDESCREEN per se, but it wasn't just blackbarred. the scifi channel website had an article about it.
